First of all, if the model you have this question listed under is correct, this washer does not use a drive belt. It is a direct-drive transmission that uses a motor coupling in place of a drive belt. If the motor coupling were bad, the washer would not agitate at all.

Secondly, the pump on this washer is ALSO used to recirculate the water during the wash cycle. It is not true that it is only used to drain the wash tub. These pumps are driven by the drive motor and only have one moving part - the impeller. If the pump were seized, the drive motor would shear off the drive shaft of the pump.

Check your lid switch.

If the washer fills and doesn't do anything, or stops right after the wash cycle and then does not advance to the rinse cycle and drain is commonly caused by a lid switch malfunction. The lid switch is usually mounted under the washer top casing, on the right hand side on most top load models. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid (called a "Lid Strike") through a small hole on the rim of the wash tub opening. In many cases the lid strike breaks off the lid, or the lid switch becomes loose and no longer makes contact. Inspect the lid to make sure the lid strike is still intact, and then inspect the mounting screws (adjacent to the small opening on the wash tub rim) and make sure they are snug.

If the switch is not activated by a lid strike, it will activated by a hinge actuator located next to either the left or right lid hinge. You will need to remove the operator console in order to access this type of switch.

If you determine the switch to be defective, the following link explains how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385198-replacing_lid_switch

A new lid switch (if needed) can be purchased on line at searspartsdirect.com, pcappliancerepair.com, repairclinic.com, appliancepartspros.com. All these sites offer competitive pricing, so shop all them for the best price.

If the washer still drains, but will not agitate or spin, the problem is your motor coupling. The following link explains how to access and replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385252-replacing_motor_coupling_whirlpool_top

The part number is included in the link I provided and only costs about $11 at appliancepartspros.com. These couplers do wear out due to normal wear and tear and need replaced from time to time.

If you have questions, or need additional assistance, please let me know. Please post back with a complete model number (located on a nameplate around the wash tub opening) with your questions, so that I may be able to provide you with better assistance. I hope this is helpful.

NOTE: You do not need to bail or empty the wash tub to complete this repair.

Sounds to me like the pump has either seized or failed.
The pump is only used to empty the machine so the washing cycle runs fine until it hits the bit when it needs to empty the water out, i.e. rinse and spin.
Older machines just used to switch the pump on for a fixed time and then assume the water was out. It then tried to spin at high speed the drum full of water !! End result, water everywhere !

I have an whirlpool ultimate care II Imperial Series Model # LSN2000JQ2 Serial:CM2819491 Type: III That will fill but won't agitate. Is this something I can really fix on my own?

Could be a problem with the lid switch or motor coupling. Does it drain? Does it spin?
when its time to agitate or spin, do you hear the motor?
Lets start with the lid switch. open the lid and use a screw driver to push the switch down. pay attention to see if you hear it click. Try to run the unit with the screw driver holding down the switch.
Let me know what happens so I can further assist you.

Washer does not rinse & spindry after getting submerged in water.

everything needs to be checked from the timer control button to the motor, im guessing it agitated through the wash cycle but wont spin now right? your flood could have damaged any number of items... run through ( with the machine unpluged ) and test the components for continuity and/or resistance.

Whirlpool washer stops in the middle of cycle does not rinse and

If your washer stops at the same time each wash, you have a dead spot in your timer. It will need to be replaced. .

Washer does not spin a lot of water out of rugs.

does it even spin? check for broken coupler by checking for tub movment when opening lid when you hear motor in spin. if good check that machine advances to spin from neutral drain automatically. let it enter spin from rinse on its own. first it will drain without spin. after 2-3 min of drain motor will pause (with clank) then restart in spin. This pause can be accomplished by opening lid and closing as well but the timer should do it on its own. if bad replace timer.

Stops in the middle of wash cycle

Hi!

If the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem:
It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.
It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water.
Please do rate this solution as FixYa and revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

Whirlpool Washer - Imperial Series Quiet Wash 2

your washers drain hose is too far down the drain pipe which is causing a siphoning action pull the washers drain hose out pipe some you should be able to hear water dropping into the pipe the reason it only happens in the rinse cycle is because the water from wash is being drained and before the water vacuum is broken the rinse water comes in causing it to keep draining

Water not draining out w/ spin cycle

sounds like water may be going out but no spin in last cycle lean washer back and ck underneath for oil leak on top off transmission is a silver colored disk shaped object this is part of clutch if there appears to be a lot of oil on it good chance there is oil on clutch also causing it not yo spin..also ck to see if basket spins after short pause at end of rinse cycle ..start a rinse cycle at setting on timer with lid shut allow to run undisturbed ..once agitation stops in rinse timer should stop then start motor back up to drain ..there should be another short pause then washer should start spinning if does not pause suspect suspect timer if it does pause but doesn't start spinning suspect transmission..remember allow washer to advance by itself DO NOT RAISE LID TO CK..a small load of clothes will let you know if washer has spun
