Question about Sony JACK, HEADPHONE Computer Speakers

1 Answer

Sony MDR-V150 Headphones

The right earpiece of my son's Sony V150 stereo headphones no longer works when used on the computer but continues to work just fine when plugged in to his Sony CD Player. I would appreciate any information as to what we can do to go back from mono to stereo on the computer. Thanks.

Hi Mrguitar
Happy holidays
Depending on the conector size and for the computer, I suggest go to Radio Shack and buy a extention jack to the headphone for your particular sound card, and headphone. this should work. sometimes the new conectors don't fit well on the sound cards. so change for an extention I send you a link of example

Have you tried other headphones? If yes, maybe the port for headphones is defective.

1 of the earcups/earpieces won't work. can i fix this myself?

You could disassemble them and try to figure out whats wrong, and you may even be able to repair them, but headphones are fiddly and you'll need a multimeter and soldering iron at least.
A quick look on eBay shows a number of respectable looking sellers for around $15.
What is your time worth to you?

Music only comes out of one side

It depends where you pulled the cord? If you pulled it near the earpiece you could have disconected the the wire from the speaker. In which case you need to remove the pad, pull off any foam (you can glue it back after) this will reveal access screws. You can then look inside to see the damage.
If you have however pulled it at the plug end, you will need to fit a new plug. If you can use a soldering iron it's not too hard to fit a new one. If you don't know how let me know and I will post additional info on it.
