Gear cases are easy to take apart with the proper tools.I suggest buying a Clymer Manuel. it has a list of special tools. TEAR DOWN PROCEDURE(1) remove the propeller shaft bearing carrier assembly by removing the carrier ring. takes a special tool. (2)the bearing carrier depending on the running condition will become stuck in the gear case. there is a special tool for removing the bearing carrier out of the gear case.(3) the bearing carrier houses the reverse gear make sure the reverse gear was removed when the bearing carrier came out. (4)look inside of gear case you will see the propshaft assembly, drive shaft with pinion gear assembly, and the forward gear.(5) on the drive shaft pinion gear you will see a nut. there is a close clearance between that nut and the clutch dog on the propshaft assembly. it takes a special wrench to get this nut off plus a spline tool to hold the drive shaft as your turning the nut off. you can make them both but be careful.(6) there are two different styles for this model of stern drive a "R" and a "MR" the "MR" drive has a retaining nut for bearing preload for the drive shaft. need special tool to remove it. the "R" drive has a spring loaded pin on the top of the driveshaft to control bearing preload. no special tool need to remove shaft after pinion nut removal.(7) once the driveshaft is removed the propshaft comes out by lining up the shift shaft just right. (8) turn the shift shaft until the shift crank is at a right angle to the propeller shaft. you can't see the shift crank because it is behind the forward gear you have to go by experience or feel. once you have the shift crank lined up properly push the propshaft to the left side of the gear case housing then pull out at that angle. GOAL propshaft "clutch dog actuating shaft" in basic terms, is like a hook that grabs onto the shift crank. you unhook it by moving the propshaft tip to the side, causing the back of the propshaft inside the housing, to unhook and move away the the shift crank. it sounds complicated but once you do it you see how easy it is.(9) once you have the propshaft and the forward gear out you can leave the shift shaft inside.there is no need to remove it. have fun

The blade is wobbling on my Fleetwood meat slicer EF12 Slices look like waves.

check that the problem is not from the way the blade is mounted on the shaft
any thing between the blade and the backing hub of the shaft will make the blade wobble so check for burrs , bad fitting parts or the like at the blade center
new bearings , shaft and hub are new but is the hub on the shaft straight

If a horse its filmed during a race at 100 frames in one second, there are 100 photos of the horse, so if you played the film at 10 frames every second, how long would the film play?

You only filmed the horse for 1 second, getting 100 frames.
Playing it back at 10 frames per second would give you "slow motion" for 100 divided by 10 equals 10 seconds.

Noisy water pump from my mini is this a common fault

I have answered lots of Mini questions and this is the 1st one about the water pump being noisy. The problem is caused by the pumps shaft bearing seal leaking, this destroys the shaft bearing. Don't let it go so long that the shaft breaks, and it will.

Yes ball bearings will work, if you can't find bearings you can buy them from the international number on the bearing inner race from a company called King Bearing in Vallejo California.

I replaced the wheel bearings on the drivers side of my 2001 isuzu rodeo and i am trying to get the snap ring back in place but the spindle will not come out far enough. i am about 1/16" shy from the clip...

Your wheel bearing isn't seated all the way to it's stop and need to be pressed in further. Usually you'll know when it hits the ledge, it won't do anything even if an elephant was standing on it.

Hard knock but not all the time

Without being able to listen to engine, I'm just going to have to guess at a few things.

My first guess would be a tappet roller going bad. The tappet rollers on Harley engines are kind of "iffy" sometimes. I've seen them go bad in as few as 13,000 miles and I've seen them still running strong at 75,000 miles. So, it's no telling when they might go bad. However, I have found that if they are going to give trouble, usually it's between the 25,000 and 35,000 mile point.

They'll start out with a intermittant knock to begin with and get worse as time goes on. The problem is that while you're trying to figure out what is knocking, it's doing a job on your camshaft. Usually when a tappet goes bad, the roller stops turning. When this happens, it galls the surface on the cam lobe it rides on destroying the cam. Generally, you can count on replacing at least one tappet, the cam, the inner cam bearing, and gaskets on the tappet blocks, nose cone, push rod tubes, and upper rocker boxes.

I have seen one other thing that made a noise like that before and it was on a '84 Shovehead with about 25,000 miles on it. The bike would run perfectly while cruising down the road regardless of speed. But, when you rolled a little throttle on and put a load on the engine, it would sound like someone with a sledge hammer inside of it. After checking everything on the engine, I pulled the sprocket shaft seal. The outer Timken bearing was gone. No rollers, no cage, just two races. Even the seal was in perfect condition. I can't explain it but we had to do a complete overhaul on the engine to put a new set of Timken bearings in.

Now, the Timken bearing engine was non-typical but the tappet problem is all too typical. Even the improved tappet design used in the Evo engine still gives problems. That would be my best "GUESS" at this point.

Good Luck!

Gear shifter for 40 h. p. mariner outboard

With your lower unit off have someone shift the engine into forward while watching the gear shift select shaft's rotation, let gearshift remain in forward, now place your lower unit in forward and reinstall. In the future just put engine in forward when installing a water pump as there won't be a need to move gearshift

The fan blade is loose & wobbles on the shaft on my dodge dakota

Fix it now or forever pick up the pieces...You have one of two problems possibly both...The fan clutch that the fan is bolted to has a bad bearing. replace it Or, the bearing in the water pump has failed. again...replace it. If fan clutch failed carefully check pump ...shaft bearing can be damaged by wobbling assembly. Seriously...don't ignore this if fan gets loose,it will damage far more than the problem you now have!!!
good luck!!

Fan & shrould Broke off the water pump

I believe that the part your'e talking about is the clutch for the fan. It is a two piece unit, factory assembled. likely the bearing inside failed and caused this. You can change the fan and clutch unit, inspect everything for damage from the fan becoming disconnected and be OK, however running and wobbling may have caused some bearing damage in the pump...keep an eye on it...any noises or leaks from there, change it.
