Kenmore Heavy Duty Washer 70 Series - agitation problem

Top part of agitator appears not to have a solid connection to the bottom part that sits on the floor of the washer. It is making a loud noise which I can replicate when the washer is empty and I manually spin the top part of the agitator back and forward. I have read from earlier posts this might be the coupler? All else works well. Appreciate any self-help available. Thank you.

The motor coupling is located between the gearcase (transmission) and the drive motor. If the motor coupling were broken, the washer would not agitate or spin. You mentioned that everything else worked fine, so I'm assuming the washer still agitates. If this is only the upper portion of the agitator (called the "Auger") slipping and making noise, the problem is worn agitator dogs. This is a very simple repair that costs very little to repair. The following link explains what the dogs are and how to replace them:

I have included the part number for the dogs. Replacements can be purchased at appliancepartspros.com for about $5. If you have questions about this repair, or if you require additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

I have kenmore 80 series heavy duty/ super capacity plus washer that after it fills with water, hot or cold and it starts the wash cycle, I noticed that the agitator only moves once in awhile and stops

hum either a bad timer sticking the point contacts close. have u tried this in all cycles? and possibly a motor with bad windings not enough power to run agitation? try running in mild or gentle and see what happens? I was tempted to say the cam dogs in agitator but they dont work then stop then work, when they go out they go out.

Kenmore heavy duty 70 series agitator is slipping and won't agitate fully.

pop the top off the agitator and remove the bolt holding this on. pull sharply on the agitator from the bottom, as this may be a li'l tough, careful you don't hit your face with it on removal.

Under this is a retainer with three 'dogs' on it. Replace these with new available at appliance parts store in your area. When placing back into the agitator, you need to be sure they don't fall out, so place the retainer on the handle end of a long screw driver or the like, the place the agitator over the top. Reinstall agitator and top and it should work.
Best luck to you on your repair

Bottom agitating, but top freely spins

You need to get an agitator repair kit. Remove the cap on the agitator. Some have a second inside plastic cover/cap. You will need a long extension and rachet and 1/2" socket to remove the hold down bolt. Remove and replace the parts with the kit parts. Replace the cover. 10 minute repair... online kit is about $13.00.

Kenmore heavy duty series 70 won't spin

Will it drain ? IF wont drain either , then the lid switch is bad . (The piece on the washer where the lid actuator goes into the washer top ) . If it will drain , then the motor/trans coupling is bad , if it will not agitate/spin .

Bottom portion of agitator works, the top portion does not

Pry the agitator top off with a screwdriver (in the little slot provided)and remove the part with a 7/16" socket. Lift out the top part of the agitator and replace the four plastic dogs with parts from RepairClinic.com http://www.repairclinic.com/Appliance-Parts?s=t-110.82870820-%3d%3dc201 for $4.95 plus shipping.

Kenmore 70 series 110 washer won't drain or spin, but agitates

You have a broken lid switch. Check to see if the switch is broken off of the two screws that hold it under the lid. If it is, get a new one, take off the case and replace old switch with the new one.
