1 Answer

I have a dell laptop and I have connected to my wireless internet adapter and my computer is sending ''packets'' to the adapter. However, its not recieving any packets; therefore, my connection isnt working. I have enough bars and all that... plz help. Solution #1 posted on Aug 30, 2009 mbase213 Rank: Guru Rating: 90.24% , 116 votes Hi Billy 3958, First off you need to go to your network connections, and right click on the wireless connection and view status. Then click on the support tab, and then the details tab. This will show you what the IP configuration is. You need to have a gateway (which is your wireless router IP) and a assigned IP address for the laptop, and also a dns IP to resolve who you are. I'm going to guess that one of them are missing, perhaps the DNS? If there is any missing click on the repair button, and see if it corrects the problem. If not, then you have a bigger problem then you bargined for. You didn't mention the name or model of the router, but if the repair button doesn't do the trick, then you will need to post information on the router, so I can help you get into that to get you connected. Also, post if this router is connecting any one else to the internet, if so, then you can look at their setup and copy that manually into your laptop. If your running XP or Vista, you can click on add a new wireless connection and it will walk you through connecting you to the router. Good Luck, And don't forget to post the information if repair doesn't work, and don't forget to leave a rating, based on your experience with my support. Thanks Mark These directions were clear and helpful; however, I did not successfully fix my problem. I am missing my gateway and the dns IP. Hopefully, you see I am not very experienced with computers. I need to know what information I can give you that will help you help me. Whatever you need I can give you.

Hello,

please contact your internet provider for the information how to configure your internet access, the ip adress and dns. Most providers have
step by step instructions how to set it up, or providing a setup programm that will configure it for you.
Once you have your connection to the provider setup you will also receive packets back.

Look on the microsoft support page, there are detailed instructions how to troubleshoot wireless connections.

I hope this solves your problem.

How to use dell vostro as hotspot

Download "Connectifyme". It is a free version with other powerful options in paid version.
But keep in mind. You either need 2 wireless adapter, 1 for internet connectivity and 1 for hotspot.
Or, you connect to the internet via LAN port and wireless adapter for wireless hotspot.
Or, connect to the internet via LAN port to a wireless modem and hotspot with your builtin wireless adapter.
Let me know if you need more info.

I have a dell desktop with wireless connection, there is also a wireless router connected to the dell to send a wireless connection to a laptop in the household. in a bedroom in the house is a compaq...

As you mentioned, your Compaq Presario MV520 is using Windows 98 OS. As we all know, dial-up connection is the only available internet connection at that time so obviously Win 98 has dial-up LAN connection. However, you wanted to have wireless connection on that PC so you need to install a wireless adapter to that PC. First of all, most wireless adapters that are being used for desktop PC are wireless USB adapter, so you need to have a USB port on that PC. And also, you will need to check if the software for the wireless adapter will be accepted by the PC because since the PC is using Win 98 OS, we are not sure if the firmware of the wireless adapter will be compatible to the PC. Basically, my answer would be not possible.

I have the adapter installed and I am connected to the router. Signal strength is great but I still have no internet. My connection shows that I am sending out packets but I am not receiving any packets....

Is the internet working on the router? You will want to troubleshoot to isolate the problem. It is best anytime when setting up new internet to turn off all firewall when having issues. What type of internet do you have? Have you connected with a wired connection directly to the router to see if the internet works that way? also you will want to check the lights on the router and modem. Make sure they are lit correctly. Once I have more information I can assist you further.
Thank you,
Lee

Connected to wireless network, but cant browse internet.

I think there might be lost in the packet sending.
You said the PC is still connected to the network but not able to go online.
Is there any other wireless computer which is able to go online wirelessly and working fine.
If yes then try to uninstall and reinstall the adapter.
If not then check the router wireless settings.

Laptops stopped connecting wireless

how about to reset your router and setup it the proper address by your internet provider..
laptops only connect to the router automatically if you enable it reconnect and detect its network without manually connect internet, this procedure can see in your wireless properties by enabling it.
And also ask your internet provider if theres a problem also with their internet connection.
Good luck!

Cant connect to the internet.

Click on Start and type CMD. Open CMD and type ipconfig. Check out the IP address V4 for the Local area ethernet adapter or wireless area adpater depending on wireless or wired connection. Any ip address other than of the class 169.254.x.x shoud be considered good. If you have an IP address is any other number other than the above you have a good IP address. to test the internet connectivity type PING www.google.com. If the results are Packets sent 4 Recieved 4 Lost 0 then the issue could be due to Internet Explorer bing corrupt or a firewall blocking the internet access. Power off the computer. Power on the system and as soon as you see the Dell logo please tap the F8 button 3 - 4 times. You'll get to teh Advanced Windows boot option screen. Select safe mode with networking and see if the internet works in the safe mode. If yes then it could be the firewall. Uninstall you antivirus and check.
