Question about Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse VSBX300008
I haven't used my Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse for a few months now when I try to use it the light on the USB works, but the red light on the bottom of the mouse doesn't seem to come on. Any ideas?
maybe the battery?
follow the steps below to troubleshoot the mouse
Wireless mouse does not respond (generic instructions)
Try to Resynchronize your device with the receiver(connector)
Follow these steps.:
Note When you synchronize the mouse or the keyboard with the receiver, put the device near the receiver and put other wireless keyboards and mouse at least 6 feet away.
1. Press the button on the receiver, and then verify that the light on the receiver starts to blink.
2. If a dialog box appears on the screen in several seconds, follow the instructions that appear on the screen. Otherwise, go to the next step.
2. Press and release the Connect Channel button on the bottom of the mouse or the keyboard.
3. Check the green light on the receiver. A steady green light means the synchronization was successful. If the problem persists, try steps 1 through 3 again.
For the Wireless Notebook mouse: This issue can occur if the micro-switch on the bottom of the mouse is not released. Use a pin or a pen to try to release the button if it is depressed.
Try different port and restart your computer.
Reinsert the batteries or install fresh batteries
If you have the possibility check whether the problem is because of your computer or the device, try the mouse or the keyboard on a different computer.

Is your mouse is Microsoft Wireless notebook optical mouse model 1023?
re attach again you USB dongle to your mouse. then slowly remove your USB dongle from your mouse. If your Optical mouse lit. that's it. Insert the USB dongle to the USB port.
If not. Buy a new one.
Anyway, you'll have to change your mouse eventually.

I also had this problem, then one time I noticed the little "off" switch, that activates when the USB transmitter is replaced.
By "jiggling" this little switch, it would then connect. Also, try reconnecting by using a pencil point to press the tiny "connect" button just below the "off" switch.

If you know that the battery is good then try this next. There is a VERY tiny shark-fin shaped spring-loaded button on the bottom of the mouse that is pressed in, when you insert the receiver, while the mouse is not in use, that turns off the mouse to save the batteries. If you haven't used the mouse in a while, it can get stuck in the in position, so that when you pull out the receiver, it doesn't spring out and turn the mouse on (indicated by the red light on the bottom). If you notice that the light isn't coming on. Just try manually pushing in the little shark-fin thing a couple times to make it spring back out. After a couple times, you should be able to get it unstuck and the red light should come on.

I had the same problem.
Press the button on the underside of the USB, the green light will flash. Now press the reset button on the underside of the mouse. Your mouse should now work.

On the adapter there is a small red button. This button must be pushed, then the red button on the bottom of the mouse must be pushed. The mouse light should blink and you should be able to use it.
