If your system won't display anything w/o the external monitor. there's something wrong with the LCD's backlight. you may have to contact your laptop's manufacturer and check if this laptop is still under warranty. you may have to get the lcd replaced.

SOURCE: monitor flickering and rolling
Thanks for the git back: #1 I hooked up a second monitor (depressed fn+f5) and was able to view everything fine. No problem in any area. Ran Some security checks (malwarebytes, checked windows updates,Secunia PSI,and a virus scan. #2 I opened up the monitor and checked for possible loose connections. #3 brought up the graphics display and checked that 60 hrz was set and correct. #4 ran a backup of all my data from my other monitor, and I made the assumption that it was a bad monitor and I might save some money if I just bought a new laptop.Would like to here your comments. Sincerely : dandee4u3

You are suggested to check if you serial cable is in fine condition and it properly pluged into the Monitor and VGA. and do also try changing the serial cable .
