You can look at the capacitors on the power board if any of them have puffed up tops that is the ones. Also when you are looking at the power supply look under the heat sink at the top right they try to hide one.

Per magnavox 37mf231d I switched tcon board, and put an older main board that I had laying around, now the tv tries to turn on, there is a background light for about 5 seconds and then it shuts off.

Hello, I think it either had a bad back light board or one of the florescent tubes in the display has gone bad. As these sets get older, I see more of the florescent tubes going bad. I think there are 9 in that set, and all it takes is one of them to go out to cause the set to shut down. You may also look for a bad connection on the transformers on the back light board.....thanks, let me know

Magnavox 37" model 37mf231d-37 wont tun on when i hit power button the screen lights up for a secongd and turns right back to black and the power button green light comes on and right back off I found

Your power supply is weak. If you think you can repair this I will tell you how. If you cannot do this, find someone who works electronics and share this repair. Two capacitors are bad. When pulling the back cover off, you may see one or two capacitors bulged. Even if they look good....replace these capacitors. The locations are numbered and, the capacitor having a value and temperature of 105 degrees.. Location of the first capacitor is 2074, value 25volts @ 2200 mf @ 105 degrees and will most certainly be bulged. The next capacitor may look fine....replace it. That capacitor location is 2066, value is 35 volts @ 1200mf @ 105 degrees. When you replace these, please be sure to get the polarity (positive leg and negative leg) of these capacitors seated correctly...this is a must. This will correct your TV. You will save lots of money, because you asked. Thanks for listening ..good luck...we will be here for your next repair.

We have a Magnavox 37MF231D TV and it popped and now the screen won't turn on. No power at all.

Hi,
Popped sound was came from a blown electrolytic capacitor and most likely in the power supply board. This board has now gone to incomplete circuit(dead) that's why the led light is not lit. If your handy with electronics, you may troubleshoot this board and look for shorted capacitor, open fusible resistor, shorted voltage regulator IC, open fuse. If you can't troubleshoot it yourself, another option is to replace the entire power supply board for more convenient. No soldering required, just pull-out all the cables connected from the existing board and put in the new board.
Also, check if your unit is under warranty/extended warranty period, avail it because the manufacturer will fix it for free. Don't attempt to open the back cover because it will void the warranty.
Let me know if you need further assistance.
Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for using Fixya.

How to take out 2 bad capacitors in my magnavox modle 50f231d/37

Get a soldering iron, some solder and solder wick. Use the wick and the iron to remove the solder off of the legs of the cap. Remove the cap. Install the new cap exactly the same direction the old one was in. With solder and iron, solder the legs on to the board. Cut off the extra length of the legs and you are done.

The problem can be in the backlight inverter board (hard to get to), or the main power supply module may not be working. Look at the power supply first since it is easy to get to, look for burnt parts, bad capacitors.

TV WANT COME ON LIGHT JUST FLASHES.

you are definitely having the same problem I"m having with my samsung.. Cheap capacitors. You will need to replace your powerboard with something similar to this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Magnavox-37MF231D%2F37-Power-Supply-REPAIR-SERVICE_W0QQitemZ350261990220QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ20091007?IMSfp=TL091007138002r8521

I recommend watching a video on how to take it apart and remember to be VERY CAREFUL there are high voltages stored in the capacitor banks even when it is not plugged in there is still risk of electrical shock.

Magnavox 37MF231D 37" LCD TV "popped" now won't turn on at all!

Capacitors tend to pop when they fail. Phillips LCD TVs have lots of problems with capacitor failures in their power supplies. I've got my 37mf231d apart on my workbench as we speak. Mine makes a whistling sound which I believe is either a solder fault or a bad capacitor.

A new power supply board is about $150 for that TV. The gamble, of course, is if the power supply took out something else when it failed.

Red blinking light on a Magnavox Plasma TV

Here is the solution. For less that 100$ your Magnavox Plasma TV. Model # 50MF2310/37 will be running like a champ.

Issue:

Magnavox Plasma TV. Model # 50MF2310/37 screen has no picture. There is no sound, TV comes on and then after a few seconds clicks and screen remains blank.

Cause:

On the main power circuit board to Capacitors are prone to failure from over load. The caps are 3300uf 10v 105+c capacitors located to the left of the AC power input.

Service:

Magnavox will refer you to a service center. They will advise $$$ for an inspection. They will also want to charge upwards of 500$ to replace the entire board.

Solution:

1. Unplug your TV
2. Disconnect all connections from your TV
3. With assistance lay your TV on its face on a non-scratching service
4. Remove the back panel screws.
5. Lift back panel off
6. The central board is your main power board.
7. Remove all wire harnesses from the main board.
8. Remove all screws that are holding the main board in place.
9. Lift the main board out and carefully place it into a non electromagnetic pouch.
10. Take the board to a Circuit Board repair shop.
11. Have them replace the the above mentioned Caps.
12. Re-install the board in your TV.

NOTE: Replace the caps with 3300uf 16v 105+ high temp caps(preferrably Japanese caps)

This fix cost me 80$ and my time to search for other who had the same issue. Try searching for Magnavox Plasma TV. Model # 50MF2310/37 bad circuit board or Magnavox Plasma TV bad capacitors or Magnavox Plasma TV bad ciruit board.

Hope this all help, Magnavox is should take ownership for this problem and recall any tv's that have these caps in them. The worst part about this is that teh **** from the repair center that was paid 100$ to check the TV, stripped out the screw holes and damaged the case for the TV.

Portland Laptop Repair was awesome. They repaired the board and it looked like new. Check them out at http://www.laptopportland.com/
