Try these few things:

#1 - Close out all unnecessary programs while running burning software, to free up as much RAM as possible...

#2 - Lower your burning speed down to 4x or even 2.4x... although the specs may allow for higher speeds, the chance for error increases dramatically as the speed goes up...

#3 - try to have at minimum 1.5x the required amount of physical memory available in the folder you are burning to (if the temp-burn folder of the program is different than the target folder, be sure to have at least 1.5x the necessary amount of space required in that folder also) Example - You are burning a DVD-5.. which will take up approximately 4.2 GB... if your program uses a temp folder, allow 6 GB free space on that drive, and try and keep 6 GB free in the target folder's drive as well (programs like Sony Vegas tell you a minimum, try and shoot beyond their requirements)

#4 - Be sure that your unit is adequately ventilated, as high-temps will degrade the quality of burn, and shorten the life of the drive!

#5 - If you have been burning for quite some time, be sure and keep the optics clean! Using a Q-tip and a small amount of rubbing alcohol, and GENTLY rotate the swab across the lens, rotating it in the opposite direction you are wiping. This should "lift" any dust or grime from the lens. I would also clean the tray with a soft lint-free cloth (using an air-can just moves the dirt around, doesn't solve the problem)

*** I have burnt as many "frisbees" as anyone I know... these are just a few tips for basic troubleshooting. In the end, use a quality app like DVDFab, avoid "bargain" blank disks, and keep your unit cool and clean ***

Hope this helps!

  • Multiformat DVD±RW/CD-RW drive with double-layer support
Records up to 8.5GB of data or 4 hours of video using compatible media; also supports DVD-RAM and Labelflash direct-disc labels using compatible Labelflash media.
  • I would say is the best optical unit around talking about a dvd and not blue-ray ...so if you insert the right kinda disk it has the ability to burn the 8.5 G dvd'es (DVD+R)

Dvd/cds will not burn past 85%

Try burning at a slower speed and try +r if using - R or visa versa on the dvd disks. My better half burns all the disks here and this is what she reccomends.
