If the system is low on freon the clutch wont come on. It should have a low pressure cut off switch (this could also be worn). Also you can check for 12 volts at the wires going to the compressor when you have A/C set on. If no 12 volts it should have a fuse to check also.If it has 12 volts and it (the compressor clutch) does not ingauge it needs replaced.I hope this helps you.

How do u get ac compressor to engage in a 96 buick century

When you turn it on, the power goes to the clutch through a fuse and a low pressure switch, check the fuse in the fuse block and then make sure you have Freon in the system, if it is low, the unit wont start.

2000 Buick Centry AC R134 pressure ok Compressor kicks in on demand, no cool air?

If you have a set of manifold gauges, check the pressure prior to starting the engine and see if you are somewhere between 80 and 100 psi. If so, start engine and then turn on A/C to 'max'. Hi side may rise to as high as 350psi with the low side dropping to around 40psi. Feel the low pressure line going to the filter/dryer and see if it begins to get cold. If it does not get cold, trouble shoot your compressor and expansion valve. If it does get cold, your cooling system is working and you need to focus your attention on the blend door mechanism under the dash. These cars use a 'stepper' type digital motor to close off or open the pathway in the airbox to direct the flow of air through the heater core, or A/C evaporator core depending on if you are wanting hot air or cold air respectively. In either case, if the blend door is not properly actuated, you will not receive any cold air into the cabin. The actuator is available at: for about $30.
Good luck!

When I turn on the ac or heater I notice that my engine starts making a funny noise. When I step on the accelator it sounds like a pulley is making a strange noise

you may have an a/c compressor clutch and or clutch bearing going bad. may be time for a new a/c compressor or compressor clutch assembly. the a/c comes on when you have the defrost or recirculation on in heater mode.

AC blowinghot air

Locate wires coming from compressor clutch and trace to nearest plug that you can unplug. Turn on A/C to max cooling. If clutch not engaged (center of compressor drive pulley not spinning with pulley), unplug compressor clutch wires and use multimeter to check voltage going to compressor clutch. If voltage is around 12 volts or more, then clutch should be engaged when plugged in. Plug clutch wires back in (with motor still running and ac set to max). If clutch still not engaged, then clutch definitely bad because 12V signal should engage it.

Have an auto parts store check for the code. It is possible that you have a bad O2 sensor or your catalytic converter is clogged.

AC does not engage when turned on

Take the glove box out. Behind the fuse box you will find a big gob of black tape, (it looks like a box shape all taped up. Take the tape off and you will find three inline fuse holders taped together. The AC fuse is the 10 amp one.

Air conditoning gets warm at idle. 1998 buick

It seems the automatic idling lifter (sensor) once you switch on the a AC system has failed and thus at low idling the Ac compressor clutch gives in stopping the compressor to spin.
You have to check tht system out.
Hope this helps!
