Question about Apple Power Mac G5 Desktop

1 Answer

I am using an Apple USB wired mouse. It is constantly freezing up. I try moving it, I wipe the lens but nothing helps it works sporadically and stops. I tried turning off sleep and rebooting but that has no effect. It's driving my wife and me crazy. In our 80's we don't need this problem. Would appreciate your help. I'm happy to pay for your service IF it works Henry handelevinson@gmail.com

I'm using a cheap PC USB mouse on MacPro since 2008. If You have OSX Tiger or Leopard, then no adjusting needed. Try this and send me a feedback.

Mouse freezes

If it is wireless try putting in some new batteries and moving the receiver to a different USB port. You could also try moving or disabling any other wireless equipment nearby to see if that could be causing it.

If it is a wired mouse try a different USB port, making sure it is plugged in directly rather than into a USB hub, re-installing the driver and rebooting the PC. With more information I could help further.

Turn off all other "wireless" devices (cell-phones, wireless telephones, iPhone) in your home, and see if the light on the receiver is "solid" on.

My apple mighty mouse works for a few minutes and then it just freezes up and I can't do anything. I have restarted the computer and all of that but is still freezes up after a few minutes of use.

Try hitting your capslock key (which will light up) or command-tab (which will switch between applications) to see if the keyboard and computer are still responding when this happens. If so, it sounds like the mouse or the USB port it is connected to may unfortunately be failing.
Also, try connecting the mouse to another USB port as others have suggested, either on the keyboard or computer itself, as this will help you determine if the failure is in the mouse or port.

Keyboard and Mouse don't work anymore

Hi, Sorry you are having problems,
Well Marcelo, the first thing to do in a situation like this is to restart your Mac or even better, shut down and restart. So, if you have done this, and still the keyboard and mouse don't respond, and, as you have mentioned, you have tried the other USB ports on the back of the Mac, it sounds like somehow, unexpectedly, your iMac motherboard got a shock of some kind and it killed the USB controller....
Last thing to try is to unplug the iMac completely of everything and let it sit for 10 minutes and then plug just the keyboard and mouse back in and try to see if that does the trick..
Otherwise, Apple will cover this if it is still under warranty.
Good Luck.

Are they wireless or wired mice? Also try a different port. If using USB, try the PS/2 (adapter may be necessary )

Try reinstalling the CD software program.

Normal 0 Disconnecting the Mouse Receiver from the USB port and reinstall the CD software program. When the program asks you to connect the Mouse Receiver to the USB port, do so and it should work.
Hope this helps. Bud

Keyboard/Mouse Freezes System Sporadically

Wireless routers generally are 2.4 Ghz, as well as the wireless keyboard and mouse. I think there is interference from the router that causes the keyboard and mouse to hang. I had the same problem with my 2.4 Ghz cordless telephones and my new wireless router. Went to 5.8 Ghz telephone and the problem stopped. I'm not sure yet how to work around the keyboard/mouse issue.
