Question about Computers & Internet

Similar Problem I have a Gateway with a Labelflash DVD-RW drive and Windows Vista. I seem to be able to write to CD-Rs, but not to DVD discs. It is extremely frustrating, especially since I cannot perform backups as a result (unless I want to use 26 CD-Rs). I also get the error: ''Windows cannot read inserted disc'' and I've tried using iTunes for music, Cyberlink Power2Go, and the Windows default burner. Nothing works.

This problem gets more complicated. My drive is an OptiArc drive that should be able to burn CD-Rs, CD+Rs, DVD-Rs, DVD+Rs, CD-RWs, and DVD-RWs. I only have CD-Rs and DVD-Rs on hand, but I've verified that it reads and writes correctly to CD-Rs, it's just the DVD-Rs I can't write to. It's a Labelflash DVD burner and I tried writing to 3 different brands of DVD-Rs, including the Memorex Labelflash DVD-Rs, which I just got 3 weeks ago to see if they would work.

This seems to be a relatively common issue, and is frequently repaired by repairing corrupted registry entries. Prior to working in the registry, I recommend you download a free copy of Erunt and make a full backup of the registry, then create a new restore point, just in case you should encounter any difficulties or make a mistake. By preparing for the unforeseen in this way, you ensure your safety and that of your data.
With that out of the way, see this article and follow the instructions outlined there to remove the upper and lower filters. Reboot the system.
If you're still having problems after doing that, you may need to update the drivers for your dvd drive. Here's a good tutorial to guide you through that process.
Good luck.
I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

Can somebody please tell me if my emachines e3010 machine has a lightscribe capability .. Could have sworn it did but I'm not having any joy!! Thanx.

Optical drive options:
  • DVD-SuperMulti with Labelflash support
  • DVD-ROM
(From http://support.gateway.com/emachines/emac/el1200/el1200sp2.shtml )

It should have the LabelFlash ability, which is similar. You should have software on the machine to support this feature.

The Wikipedia site mentions what unique DVD's are needed:

I am probably doing something wrong. I want to use a DVD RW to store data but it seems the MS Media center is all I have. Is there a way to use these types of removable storage like a CD-RW? Could I need...

You can use programs like Nero to burn data onto a disc such as a CD-RW. Since you already have a DVD burner you can even use a DVD-RW to burn your data

  • Multiformat DVD±RW/CD-RW drive with double-layer support
Records up to 8.5GB of data or 4 hours of video using compatible media; also supports DVD-RAM and Labelflash direct-disc labels using compatible Labelflash media.
  • I would say is the best optical unit around talking about a dvd and not blue-ray ...so if you insert the right kinda disk it has the ability to burn the 8.5 G dvd'es (DVD+R)

Mac mini superdrive ejects discs

Hi
I think the answer is in your question. Pioneer DVD-RW drive, DVD+R disc.
For some reason known only to Apple, some drives do not work with all discs. Mine will not burn -R dual Layer discs.

Emachine EL1200 won't burn dvd's.

I researched the Emachine EL1200 and it IS equipped with a DVD burner so there is no reason it shouldn't work. Return it while it is still under warranty. There is a 1 year warranty.

If it is out of warranty (system is older than 1 year), the drive can be replaced.

If you are asking for the information regarding the ODD here it is: DVD SuperMulti (+/-R double layer) with Labelflash? drive supporting 11 formats * Maximum speed and compatibility: CD-ROM (24x), CD-R (24x), CD-RW (4x), DVD-ROM (8x), DVD-R (Single Layer, (8x)), DVDR (Double Layer, (4x)), DVD-RW (4x), DVD+R (Single Layer, (8x)), DVD+R (Double Layer, (4x)), DVD+RW (4x), DVD-RAM (5x) * Supports Labelflash? media to burn high quality labels directly on the disk. If not ( Cant read CD or DVD ) then most likely the lens on the ODD is already busted. or ODD cant be detected then just go to the Website support.toshiba.com and download the latest update for the ODD. And install the driver on your NB and restart the NB. If still the same then the ODD you have is already busted what you need to do is to buy a new ODD.

Cant write DVDs with my DVD+RW RW8165 Drive

your drive may not be compatible with -rw disks. Try using +rw. They are totally different.

also i am having a similar issue with vista with burning dvds. I have to set it on 4x or it fails around 90 % up to 99%. Lower your max burn speed.
