Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I lose the picture after about 10 minutes, if I turn the tv off and wait 5 minutes, and then turn on, it works again ... but only for 5 minutes or so ... then goes off ... when the picture is on, it looks great ... no degradation in quality. never lose sound ... just the picture. it is almost as it if overheats, and switches off, then after cooling it comes on again, but then quickly overheats and turns off ..

What is causing LG TV 47LN5200 to lose picture and go and stay black at random time intervals?

you seem to have a reasonable knowledge of the problem
it is unfortunate that you still have a problem but the fact is, replacing parts without fixing the original fault will only cause the replaced parts to fail again
it is a good project and will improve your knowledge well past the point where a new tv would have been cheaper
there are manual on the net that you can buy /download that may help and they may show an area not considered that is the original fault

Electronics can fail after they warm up. When they cool down again they start working again. The electronics need replacing, on this TV its cheaper to replace the TV.

I lose the picture after 20 - 25 mins. I turn off the TV and turn it quickly back on and the picture works fine; then 10 - 15 mins goes by and I lose the picture again. I turn the TV off then quickly back...

it probablt needs power supply capacitors, if you can take it apart and inspect the power supply, the bad capacitors usually are expanded and have a bulge at the top, you would need to solder these parts in, so some skill is required.

Sony tv snow for first 5 minutes on

Probably dry solder joints in the tuner section.

When the set warms up, the faulty joint/s make contact, then lose contact again when it cools down.

TV picture goes out

The tv is shutting down because of a power problem. It could be the power transformer or a color gun overheating. Expect at least a couple of hundred dollars to fix it. Some shops will do house calls for around $65 and can diagnose the problem and give you an estimate. Usually they can just remove the board, take it to the shop and repair it, then reinstall it.
