I dont have the original remote, and I cant seem to find any other way to get the tv to get out of the 4:3 mode, its very annoying when trying to watch widescreen movies. Ive tried looking in the manual it only says to hit the button on the remote, tried hitting everything in the on screen menus. Would they really make the remote the only way to change it?

It sounds like you have the Zoom feature in the wrong mode. There should be several levels of zoom that you can cycle through with your remote. These were designed so that you can fill a 16:9 aspect screen with a 4:3 picture if you want to. You also may have the Auto Format feature turned on. Go into settings and check that first. It sounds like you should be set on 16:9. Sometimes the right and left arrow keys on the remote will cycle through the various formats.
You will need the original remote to perform a convergence touch up on Magnavox TV sets. If you are using the original remote - but still can't get it working - go back to the site where you purchased the tv repair kit and ask for their help
Try the aspect button on your remote, or if you have this hooked up to a cable or satellite converter, there are screen resolution preferences, you can change the screen resolution here, go the the menu portion and look for video/audio field
I called Hitachi and the solution is in your cable remote not your tv remote. Your tv has a aspect menu as does your cable remote. Based on your cable provider you should have a settings or menu button to change the zoom or aspect of your screen. I had the same problem and have Comcast as cable and this worked for me.
press mute on the remote then while pressing mute press menu on the set.then you navigate with the instructions below.
