My top fridge compartment suddenly started freezing the food/milk etc.
Door seals appear ok with no leak.Drain pipe at back is ok and not blocked. Lower freezer compartment is working fine. This is a frost free model, ive tried turning down the dial on the front to zero but still no better. Any ideas please

Re: Fridge compartment is freezing food/milk etc
To solve this problem, you must open the compressor area at the back bottom of the refrigerator and chek the temperature of the pressure line. If the temperature is between 55celcius to 60 than its ok. Or else you need to change the refrigerant.
I suggest you to contact the service authority.

You have lot your evaporator fan motor in the freezer that caused no air to circulate, this would also effect the refer section too. P# WR60X10185 if you need it, check to see if the fan remains running on high speed even when the freezer door is open for 3-5 minutes.
At the back of the fridge check for a small drain hole that allows the water to flow out to the top of the compressor They do block up from ice and food residue (peas -milk etc) I would have a very serious talk to the rental agency as the fridge repair is the responsibility of the land lord as it came with the property. Ask for a new fridge or a good serviceable fridge. The freezer door gaskets are probably not sealing ( gone hard) allowing air in with the air moisture turning to ice.
I have a 6 year old Kenmore Elite top freezer.. I have been dissapointed from day one with this fridge.. the fridge has air vents all over the inside of the fridge. We find that if one of these vents have anything in front of it that something somewhere else in the fridge will freeze. Its very frustrating.. I find that I loose allot of fridge space because I am always juggling space to make sure that these vents are always open... very bad design.. sounded like a good idea at the time.. but never again..
first run the diagnostics on the unit from the tech sheet inside the unit, then if thermistors are bad replace these there are 2 one on the left and one on the right wall in both fridge and freezer,if good per diagnostics then replace the electronic damper door located between the fridge and freezer compartments in the upper left hand corner of the fridge behind the plastic grille as these doors break and jamb open or shut and the temps can no longer be regulated during the diagnostics tests you can hear this door operate if its operating correctly, lastly,if these fail to solve your problem, replace the main control board in the back behind a panel
Most manufacturer's fridges are designed for 34 degrees F in the fresh food compartment and 0 degrees F in the freezer compartment. Setting the fresh food compartment to a value lower than 32 degrees will freeze any moisture in foods, fruits and vegetables and freeze water in juices and other beverages resulting in broken containers, exploding cans, etc.
What you need is another freezer. Trying to convert a refrigerator into a freezer is going to be very difficult - especially without ruining it.
you gotta send model number, there are different things that can cause this,if the freezer is on top,the cold air from the freezer gets blown into the fridge in the center of the top shelf so if any food is near this it will freeze if the air isn't monitored, check the settings first,it could be set to high, there's a cold control or thermostat that monitors how much air comes into the fridge and when it reaches a certain temp it shuts off but it sounds like your having a problem with it,also on some fridges they have a damper that can mess up,there's a door on it that doesn't close and the cold air just keeps coming into the fridge and things start freezing up
Sounds like the defrost timer may be out of whack. Is the temp control turned all the way up? Are the coils clean? Are the door seals sealing? Are the penguins still working when you close the door. Hope these help, Matt
run your hand around bottom door seal see if you can feel a warm spot, if you do check that area for contamanation ie;particals of food etc if not pull the seal in that area back slightly see if seal is split.if all seems ok look at the drain hole at the back of your fridge inside it often clogs up with small particals of food if this is the problem use a pipe cleaner to clean it.if its cloged water will be seen lying at the bottom of your fridge ;if any of the above do not cure your problem turn down your fridge a little this will not affect your freezer.hope this helps you.adrian
