Question about Computers & Internet

Mx2424 attached to computer through ethernet. Computer sees MX2424 but will not connect. (connection pending) I was told I need to reconfig my computer to recognize the ethernet. I do not know how to do this. Is that my problem, if so how do I reconfig? This computer was once online as dialup. I have installed a Realtec ethernet card, ViewNet software, and connected the ethernet to the MX2424 with a cross over cable as recommended. Now what? Thanks

I just need to have my computer reconfig to recognize ethernet. Everything else has been done. Wired up correct...IP Address correct.....hardware installed correctly....but when trying to use ViewNet it states....(Connection Pending) then fails. I understand I must reconfig my computer for ethernet connection.....there is no hub.....it is a direct hookup between MX2424 and Computer...no router .... it is not wireless... it is a direct connection between computer (windows 98) and MX2424. ViewNet 2.1 I just need to reconfig computer...can you help me.

I've done the IP address...that was not my problem.....both the IP and sub address.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. You have done everything correctly. However, to connect to the internet you'll need to enter the IP Address in the Connection Settings of your Computer. The IP address settings can be obtained from your service provider. You can enter these settings yourself by looking at these links--

IP Address settings in Windows XP

IP Address settings in Windows Vista

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks

If you installed Viewnet software and connect to the ethernet hub, you can't use a cross over cable. This one is used when you connect directly to your computer. This is a case when your computer uses wireless internet.
You need a standard CAT 5 cable to connect to the ethernet hub. After that you can log in your router configuration to see it is recognized through attached devices.

Good day,

To attach your Ethernet (LAN) cable do the following:

Look on the back side of your computer.
You will see connectors similar to this

Need to connect modem to two computers so one computer can access work vpn.

Depending on how you set up the first computer, you can have one computer connected by USB and another by ethernet (straight-through cable). If you want both computers connected by ethernet, you need a crossover ethernet cable between the Modem and a router or switch (hub). You will need a straight through ethernet cables from the router to each computer.

Then set up each computer as appropriate for the type of connection (including installing drivers for the USB as needed). For more details see: http://broadband.motorola.com/consumers/products/SB4220/downloads/SB4220_userguide.pdf .

I hope this helps.

Connect itouch to internet

From what it sounds like, you are working in a Windows environment. What you are trying to do is bridge your wireless ad-hoc network with your wired network connection. Windows does not support this method of connection even though they have the option for "allow other network users to connect through this computer's internet connection". That would only work if you had two ethernet cards in your system, and that option bridges one ethernet port with the other. It doesn't support bridging to your wireless adapter.
Most laptop wireless cards do not support an "infrastructure" mode, which would turn your notebook into a mobile router. Instead they create an ad-hoc network completely separate from your wired network. There are some commercial pieces of software that can bridge the two, though I've never been able to make them work.
The easiest route would be to go to Target or a local electronic store and pick up a wireless router. You would take the ethernet connection from your laptop and attach it to the router. Then your laptop and iPod would both connect to the internet through the router.

Wrong ip address, need to reconfigure

Im assuming youre using an integrated ethernet card since you say "adapter port" and "unplugged". So....

Since you reformatted your HD with O/S re-installation you may also have to reinstall or update it to the correct ethernet adapter driver. As far as the ethernet card set-up - copy your ethernet card property configurations from the other computers. Also copy configuration settings from your Internet Explorer options.

Network printer

Connect one end of an ethernet cable into the ethernet port on the printer and the other one into a free port on the router. Then, using the install CD, tell it that you are attaching a printer on the network. The software should automatically detect the printer on the network and set itself up for it.

Heres how i install my modems
1.Turn off all equipment
2. Take an ethernet cable going from the modem, and plug it into the ethernet slot on the computer.
3. plug in the modems power and give it 1 min to power up.
4. Power up your computer and see if it gets connection.

Troubleshooting.
1.Go to the control pannel and look at internet connections.
2. Look for your connection (LAN), and see if is connected.
3. If it isnt connected than it is a problem on your ISP's side.

For other support
1. Call your internet service provider for help.
2. Call the customer support line for the modem.

Setup Question

no if your pc is connected to the router, then that one has its connection which i assume will be either usb connected or ethernet connected. You laptop will connect via the wireless connection to the router, not your pc, so as long as your laptop has a wireless adapter then it will independantly connect to the router, your other pc does not have to be switched on as your router is connected to the net as long as it is switched on.
