Question about Dishwashers

1 Answer

I have a Whirlpool Dishwasher DU1345XTVB about 5 years old. It functions perfectly but is not cleaning the dishes well particularly the top rack. The arms spin, soap dispenser works, cycles properly--just doesn't get the food off. I checked the arms to see if the are blocked but don't appear to be as the dishes get wet. Thanks

Thanks. I am suspecting that it is the heater as the water is hot coming fom the water heater but I don't think as hot as if the dishwasher had heated it more. The dishes are pretty much rinsed and it is not dried on food. It is draining well. Is replacing the heater a major and expensive job? I am wondering if I should just replace it. Thank you.

    Yes. Thank you

Hi I replaced the heater and that helped. The water seems appropriately hot and the heater is hot to touch. And I have tried two types of detergent. It is still not cleaning well. I have rinsed everything first, tried every cycle etc. Is there something else I should check?

There are a few things to do. The water temperature is a big contributor, in dishes not getting clean. Another is the type of detergent being used. Liquid dishwasher detergent with water softeners and a drying agent will help loosen food too. If the food is dried on, it will be hard to clean off. For day old dishes, right before you run the dishwasher, run them under hot water, at the sink. This will start to soften the food that remains on them. Manufacturers tell you that your dishwasher will clean dishes if the racks are completely full. They will only do that if the dishes are 99% clean to start with. Give the dishes room for the water to spray around. Make sure the drain is clear of food & debriis.

    The repair is relatively easy.

The parts are available at http://www.repairclinic.com/Whirlpool-Di...

The part will cost between $26 - $125, depending on which one you have. There are different heaters available for the same model. Replace it with the exact same type.

I've tried a lot of detergents and I've found Oxydol Liquid for dishwashers works best for me. Sometines I get filmy dishes on top, sometimes on the bottom. It seems to vary by the day. It probably has a lot to do with the quality of the water .

Top shelf dishes aren't getting clean in my 5 year old Whirlpool dishwasher. Any suggestions?

Hello,

The most likely reason the dishes in the uppper rack of your dishawasher are not getting clean is because the filter on the pump is built up withe debris and the water is havinga tough time circulating through the pump. This tip i wrote will show ya how to clean that filter.

Whirlpool du1055xtsq 3 not cleaning top rack of

In my experience, you probably have a clog in the spray arm/arms for the top rack. Take the arm(s) out and see if the holes in them are clogged. Rice, plastic wrappers, and glass from dishes that broke in there are the most common culprits I've seen.

Our dishwasher is approximately 13 years old. Today I turned it on and it did not clean the dishes. After trying to wash the dishes three times, the dishes on the bottom rack were clean but the top rack...

13 years old?!? LOL, you're lucky it turns on!!!

Pop the sprayers off and check for clogs. Otherwise, get a new one, this machine is way, way, way past its life expectancy.

Kitchen aid dishwasher doesn't clean dishes in the top rack

Sounds like you have 1 of 2 problems. Either your pump is clogged or you need a bigger drain loop.

Top rack dishes are not clean

My Whirlpool dishwasher is only 2 years old and I started having the same problems. I dismantled everything I could and washed and scrubbed the entire unit with EVERYTHING..to no avail, dirty dishes!! But I discovered a remedy! Try using Lemi-Shine for about a week with your regular wash-soap. If you are using the tablet form of soap, stop and try the powdered form. Follow the instructions on the Lemi-Shine container. You can find it just about anywhere for around $3.50. I was within "5 seconds" of replacing my 2 year old Whirlpool dishwasher when this caught my eye and I figured why not try it too? After the first wash I noticed a big difference the cleanliness of the dishes..and now it is running GREAT after 2 weeks!
