Check at the outdoor unit where your electric and your refrigerant copper lines come in to the back of the unit and look for a little round red reset button. Push it, the unit might then come on.

Electric Nordyne Furnace/AC/with heat pump makes buzzing noise when turned on, registers do put out heat. Any ideas what is causing the buzzing noise?

is it only in heat? Possibly the heater contactor but I don't believe nordyne uses a contactor. could possibly be the transformer humming? many different strange noises come from units, may want to have it serviced.

Why contactor on heat pump will not energize heat mode?

Heat pump and AC are basically working the same principle. When you turn on the heat pump is just like to turn on the AC. The main contactor will energize to turn on the compressor. The only difference is the 3 way valve, either switching to AC mode or heat mode. It is the most commom problem for heat pump. Check the thermostat wires for heat mode and defrost control.

Why does lenox heat pump not heat in normal heat mode?

The thermostat is not a heat pump thermostat or it is not wired or set up correctly.

Contactor does not activate on 1 ton 208 V 1PH residential Heat Pump condenser. It cools and heats when manually pushed in. A green flash comes from the contactor when pushed in a and released

Green flash is the sparking, which is common which elderly contactors. It should likely be replaced. Test for the problem by checking for continuity (ohms) on the solenoid coil of the contactor. (The two small wires on the side.) Test also if you get 24v AC on those two wires when the A/C is turned on. If you have no 24v, it's a thermostat or wire problem. If no continuity, replace the contactor. (Always pull the wires off the contacts when checking the contacts for continuity.)

My cooling and heat pump quit working and the fan outside does not come on. If you push in the contactor in the fan comes on and sounds like the compasator does to.

Check the voltage at the contactor where the 24 vac connects to the coil for the contactor so you can see if it is making it that far. It will be 2 smaller wires that are not connected to the 240 vac. Let me know if you have 24 vac there. The thermostat will have to be calling for air for the 24 vac to be present. let me know what you find.

Goodman AC Unit with Heat Pump - Works great cooling when switched to heat the outside unit does not come on - inside comes on and uses emergency heat? What can I check? I first checked the contactor and...

Because the outdoor unit works in cooling, it sounds as though the contactor and other components outside are working correctly. The problem sounds as though it might be somewhere in your thermostat. Has the thermostat been replaced recently? If so, make sure it was wired correctly. If not, check all of the connections and contact points in your thermostat. In order for your outdoor unit to run, you must have 24vac at your "C" Common and "Y" connections. You must have this in COOL mode. Now it has to be determined why you don't have it in HEAT mode. Definitely a thermostat issue.

Hope this helps and good luck! :-)

Ruud heat pump

Did you just install this heat pump? If so it sounds like you replace a regular a/c with a heat pump, which will require more wires for the reversing valve. First check to make sure you have 24v going to the condenser. Make sure you have a heat pump t-stat. You should have a orange t-stat wire for your reversing valve. At the t-stat you will have terminals R, Y, G, O, X or C or B, W1, and W2. R is half of your 24v circuit and is a red wire, Y is for cooling mode, G is the Fan green wire, O is for the reversing valve, orange wire, X or C or B is the other half of control circuit blue wire, W1 and W2 is the heat strips in the furnace tan and black wires. These are standard color code but remember electricity does not know colors and an installer may have used different colors. If all of this is correct possibly bad contactor.

That low pressure switch is isolated so that would not be the issue. The defrost board is the most likely culprit but you did not post the model number to tell more

Ruud heat pump outside unit trips circuit breaker

Check your wiring between the contactor and compressor for a short to ground, or check the compressor windings for short to ground.
With the Tstat off, the contactor should be open so the only way for the compressor to be trying to do anything is if the 110 volts from the unbroken side are traveling through the compressor to ground. Since 110v is not enough to run it, the overload is kicking it out, cooling off, and repeating the cycle. When you kick on the Tstat, the contactor is supplying voltage directly to ground without going through the resistence of the compressor windings and kicking the breaker.
Post back and let me know what you find.
