Light Bulb Works but the Rest Won't

This microwave has worked fine for us until we had a power outage last week. After the power came back on the microwave wouldn't work, but the light inside still turns on when we open the door so I know the whole thing isn't fried. Nothing happens when I press any of the buttons or turn the dial. What happened and how do I fix it!?

I am having the same problem but didn't see any solution outside a repairman, is this something I could fix myself?

Microwave is 2 months old- same exact thing happened. Power outage, light bulb comes on but the rest is dead.

My under cabinet microwave is not working correctly.

The possible reasons are: 1) The high voltage transformer is broken, 2) The magnetron is broken.

For the 1st problem, no power can be applied to the turntable.
For the 2nd problem, the magnetron is broken with no microwave can be issued.

How do I get rid of the noise?

Hello, Sarkis -

I found 4 descriptions of what may be causing the noise when you operate your microwave oven. See the information on all 4 possible causes here:
https://www.repairclinic.com/RepairHelp/How-To-Fix-A-Microwave/78-88--/Tappan-Microwave-is-loud-or-noisy

Note: Safety advice I have read regarding microwave oven repair is to have a microwave oven repaired only by an authorized repair technician. It is not do-it-yourself work.

Any repair might not be worth the cost compared to purchasing a new replacement. A microwave repair technician authorized to work on Tappan microwave ovens will be able to evaluate what is causing the loud noise and give you an estimate of the repair costs.

Note: If you find you need to replace your microwave oven, please be sure the old microwave oven is sent to electronics recycling.

Best wishes.

Riccar microwave oven RM 700N Light no longer works - can't figure out how to get to the bulb to replace it.

1 Unplug the microwave oven from the outlet. Wait 20 minutes for the capacitor that is inside the microwave to discharge.
2 Unscrew all the screws around the casing by turning them counterclockwise.
3 Remove the cover by lifting off.
4 Locate the light bulb in the microwave. This will be located on either the right or left side.
5 Unscrew the light bulb by unscrewing counterclockwise. Some light bulbs are held into the socket by two notches; for these you will need to gently push on the bulb and turn counterclockwise to remove the bulb, then pull out of the socket.
6 Place your new bulb in the empty socket and secure by turning clockwise until tight, or if the bulb is one with notches on both sides, then guide the notches into the slot on the socket, push gently and turn clockwise until clicked into position.
7 Replace the cover and screw back on. You are now done and may plug back in the microwave.

Lights stuck on on microwave

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week or so.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

This can often also affect the exhaust fan, cooling fan, turntable, and/or inside light operation, too.

Details of our service are at our Web site, along with a video showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Feel free to contact me directly with your brand, full model number and symptoms.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

One surface light bulb on GE Profile microwave keeps burning out

I have the same problem. The left one burns out within a couple of hours use, the other one lasts a couple of months and is then gone. This pattern has repeated over 8 years. I replace them every now and then and then just go without until I get the urge again to fix it. Maybe smaller lower wattage lamps are worth trying...

The lights fan can be inoperable or stuck on or no bright, too. Sometimes this will similarly affect the exhaust fan operation, too.
