If you mean from flux core wire to gas shielded wire you will need a tank and regulators, and feed hose from the welder to the tank

I have a lincoln sp-100 welder and despite having a good ground the weld quality is just not there. Any help is appreciated

Hi,
Let's troubleshoot this one:
1) Make sure you have the right polarity for the wire you are using: Innershield wire (no gas) ground clamp must be on the + side. Solid Wire (gas use) ground clamp to negative side.
2) If gas is used: Mild steel welding requires Argon/CO2 mix 75/25 or 90/10. Using pure CO2 you will create a lot of sparks and a lot of fumes. Stainless Steel welding requires a Trimix gas of Argon/Helium and CO2. Aluminum Welding requires pure argon. Any use of gas requires a steady gas flow of no more than 25 SCFH. If you use more than that or less you will find porosity on the welding.
3) Your work piece must be cleaned before welding (no grease, dirt or paint).
4) Check your machine welding chart for wire speed and voltage.
If you still experience problems with welding quality, check you input power voltage, make sure it doesn't fluctuate.
Goooooood Luck.

Hi there,
I found a manual that has a lot of information in it.These welders only have a duty cycle of 30% so that means you can only run them 3 minutes out of 10.They have thermo switches that shut them down before they get to hot.The house breaker needs to be around 50 amps at least I have a 125 buzz box and a wire feed and that's what I use.I would check the circuit breaker in the house to see if its tripped.I turn my mig on the side so that the shavings from the wire pushing wheels don't get pushed into the liner and clog the wire and make it jam.Well hope this helps.Thank You for choosing FixYa.com and good luck!

Does welder need argon gas when using steal wirer

Hi:

If you are using solid mild steel core wire, yes you need a mix of gas Argon/CO2 75/25.

Only cored shielded wire do not required gas (also called innershield or flux cored).

Adjust your flow rate for the mild steel wire at 20 or 25 scfh, depending if you are welding inside or outside a shop.

Lincoln 135 PRO MIG Welder feed stops after a few minutes

1/4" plate with a 135 amp machine is probably beyond it's duty cycle abilites. If you are using a mixed gas, and pushing the max on the settings, it will be cutting out because it is designed to.
You might want to get a higher amperage welder for consistent welding of 1/4"
The 140 Pro maxes out at 5/16" using inner shield wire. and 1/8", or 10 guage with gas.
