Question about Kidde Nighthawk Combo Gas/co Detector

Beeped but we don't even have a gas line!

At around 5am we were woken up by the loud beeping...it read gas and when i frantically pushed buttons to make it stop it said 235. i opened the windows and it stopped but i took out the battery too for good measure (and left the windows open). our condo building has no gas line. only electric. for the life of me i can't figure out why it would go off - it happened once before a few months back, also in the middle of the night... We've had this unit for 3 yrs and have recently changed the battery...thoughts? Maybe we'll switch to a regular CO2 only reader...

Don't take this the wrong way, but there are other possible sources of natural gas (methane) in a home. We used to have our combo detector installed in the hallway outside the bathroom, and no joking, we would get false alarms when people forgot to turn on the fan after using the bathroom.

I'm here trying to figure out why our detector is alarming for no apparent reason, but ...

Previously our detector alarmed if we applied sunblock nearby, cooked with wine, or if the dog farted next to it (she's now afraid of it). Give a lot of thought to placement. It detects a variety of hydrocarbons, not just natural gas, methane, or propane.

Your thinking along the right line, combo units seldom work as single function units. keep in mind that a CO detector need to be replaced every 5 years on average. look at the date code on the new unit to make sure it reads good until or replace by 2012 of better.

Kenwood Protalk tk-3200U8P will receive, but not transmit. When talk button is push a loud beep will sound. Any suggestions?

Assuming it is programmed correctly, it is a weak, undercharged or bad battery. Transmit takes a lot more power than receive. A beep or no transmit, even if the Transmit light comes on can still mean the battery condition described.

My beep quit! Beep used to work when the oven came up to temp, the timer timed out, or a button was touched. Can it be reset or will I need to replace it? Where's the control board located and how do I...

We have a Kitchenaid Superba gas stove and the beeps would not sound. We thought the control panel was shot, but we have a WONDERFUL repair man. Here was his re-set.....open oven door, push the cancel button, push stop-time button and hold that button for about 5 seconds. When the beep sounds let go and the panel is re-set. WOW!!!!

Random beeps

  • Take out batteries and unplug powerstrip.
  • Let it sit for 1 minute, then put the batteries back in and wait another minute.
I contacted customer support... they tell me the FAQ information on their own website is incorrect. The opposite is true, therefore the following is correct:
  • If it does not beep, the powerboard needs to be replaced
  • If the unit continues to beep, the keypad needs to be replaced
Here in Canada, they will send you a new one within 3-5 days free of charge. Call customer support:

Hold down the Display/Menu function button (one of those three buttons on the left of the unit) for about 3-4 seconds until the display reads "t set". When this appears, push the track forward button once (>>|) so the display reads "beep"; now press the play pause button (>||) once. The display will now say "on", push the track forward button (>>|) once to make it read "off"; now push the stop play button. You're done. Enjoy the silence.
