Question about Mtd Garden

Middle blade in 3 blade mower for ride on does not seem to cut?

I have early 90's MTD lawnmower with a 42" cut at 18 hp.
The mmiddle blade appears to either slip or not work at all.
This is a belt drive blade system. Is there something that I should be checking for. The blade is attached quite tight to the bottom of the mower deck.

Raise the deck and reach into the bad blade and try and turn it. If it turns easily then try to wiggle the blade up and down. If it moves up and down then the bearings are bad. You will have to remove the shaft and install new bearings. It is best to take it to a shop that can replace them. If you try and beat them off with a hammer you will probably mess up the shaft. I know from experience. You might be able to buy the whole new shaft with bearings already installed pretty cheap. Just find your part number and go to www.jackssmallengines.com and input the part number into the search box. They have reasonable shipping prices. You can also go to your local small engine repair shop they might even have free shipping.

Good luck and let me know if this helps.

thanks

?setup for mower blades mtd 15-36rd is there left and right blade we need a diagram as shown how they are fitted give me a picture the blades ,the blades have wings at one end to allow the lawn go

I do not have pictures but will try to explain. There is no left or right for mower blades. Both the same.
It sounds like mulching blades you have That's ok.
The wings on the ends go in the up location.
If its a 36 inch cut then make sure the blades are 18 inch long each.
Make sure the blades are the same center as the old ones. Or they are made for that mower. If they are upside down you get a very bad cut.

My idea is not about the belts, but is about the deck. If the tensioning mechanism on the deck is getting stuck in an intermittant position than the belt may be just tight enough to turn blades while slipping through the pulleys, this may cause enough friction to start melting your belts. If this is the case you will have to remove your mower deck and see what is preventing the mechanism from functioning properly.

Where do i change the oil on 5.5 hp. 21 inch cut mtd push mower

Most of these machine will have an oil drain plug under the mower deck near the center of the blade. 80 to 90 % of them are a 3/8" drive female plug that can be removed with a ratchet and a short extention.
When you put it back in it is a good idea to clean it well and wrap the threads with 2 or 3 layers of teflon tape
