Question about Microsoft Wireless Laser Desktop 4000 Keyboard/Mouse

1 Answer

The Keyboard not working, MS Wireless, laser, desktop 5000

I went through the process to do a normal install of a new MS Keyboard/Mouse just purchased from Costco. Keyboard was dead ... I went through the hardware toubleshooting process ... still no luck. I am installing into a new HP Pavilion a6230n Desktop, but to avoid the travails of using MS Vista ... we took the Hard Drive out of the old machine, which is loaded with Win XP Pro and went through a bit of an arduous process to get various drivers to work with the existing HD and the components within the new box ... maybe there are conflicts in doing that?

The keyboard bundled with the new computer works fine.
The Mouse that came with the Keyboard works fine.
I have tried every imaginable combination of working with the reset buttons on the mouse and keyboard.
I have uninstalled and re-installed the software several times.
I went back to Costco to buy another keyboard ... no help there as it doesn't work either.
I have tried the driver uninstall and reinstall process via the Keyboard help menu.
I wrote to HP to get help ... their advice dept. wrote back that if the bundled keyboard works, then any third party keyboard should work.
I am at the end of anything my limited knowledge will allow me to do.

I don't like the sound of you taking the hard drive out of a old computer and loading it in your new one without reinstalling windows especially with windows XP your choice i guess.

Did you try and couple the keyboard and receiver by pressing and holding the button on the keyboard for a while?

The wireless mouse works but the laser 5000

press connect on the wireless device...let go and then within 5 seconds press the button on the bottom of the keyboard. Repeat the same steps for the mouse whther its working or not. The problem usually is that the keyboard and mouse are on the same "Wireless Channel" and only resyncing them puts them on a seperate channel, hope this helps.
