Sounds like a gas regulator problem. But, somewhat unusual, as most people complain of low flames. In any event, you will need to replace the Hose/Regulator Assembly. They run about $30.00 and can be found at any hardware store or home center, that sell gas grills and accessories.
As a safety measure, after turning off the gas tank, check each burner for blowout or rust through..
I hope this helped you and thanks for choosing FixYa.
Gerald, when you turned the gas tank valve back On, after replacing the burner, the OPD Valve in the grill tank partially locked up the grills gas regulator. To solve this problem, follow the steps below:
1. Turn the gas valve OFF and disconnect the hose from the tank. Wait 5 minutes.
2. Reconnect the hose to the tank and open the tank valve VERY, VERY, SLOWLY (Slow motion, slow).
3. Once the valve is fully open, light the burner farthest from the grill first and turn it to HIGH. Does the flame height look correct for the highest setting? If so, light the remaining burners the same way. Now, to all the flame heights look normal for the highest setting. if so, you solved the problem.
4. Close the hood/lid of the grill and allow it to preheat for at least 15 minutes. The temperature reading (if your grill thermometer is correct) should between 400 & 450 degrees F, depending on outside air temperature. Which is hot enough to sear a steak.
If none of the above corrected the problem. You will need to replace the grill's Hose/Regulator Assembly, because the regulator is partially locked up. You can pickup one at any home center or hardware store that sell gas grills and accessories for about $30.00. Take your old one with you for comparison purposes.
Hope this helped you to troubleshot and solve the problem. Happy Grilling!!
Assuming it's a Propane Grill. More than likely, the grills regulator is partially locked up or the tank is low on gas..If you're confident that the tank has adequate gas, turn the tank valve OFF and disconnect the grill hose/regulator assembly from the tank. Wait 5 minutes and reconnect the hose to the tank. Open the tank valve VERY, VERY, SLOWLY (Slow motion, slow), until it's fully open. Then light the burner that's farthest from the tank, first and turn the flame to it's highest setting. Has the flame height returned to normal? If so, light the remaining burners the same way. Have all the flame heights returned to normal? If so, you solved the problem. Remember to always turn the tank valve ON Very, Very Slowly.
If that didn't solve the problem and you are still sure there's adequate gas in the tank ... You'll need to replace the grill's hose/regulator assembly. You can find one at any home center or hardware store that sells gas grills and accessories. Just make sure to take your old one with you for comparison purposes.
Hope this helped you solve the problem and Happy Grilling!!
Low flame, low temperature, yellow flame: This has become the biggest problem with many grills these days and it's almost always because of the regulator (the funny UFO shaped thing on the gas hose). Regulators seem to be stickier these days and when they stick you don't get enough gas to generate a good grilling temperature. To get your regulator unstuck you need to release the pressure on it. Follow these steps exactly:
Turn off the gas at the propane tank
Disconnect the gas line from the tank
Open the grill lid
Turn all control valves to high
Wait for about a minute
Turn all control valves to off
Reconnect the gas line to the tank
SLOWLY turn on the gas at the tank
Light the grill normally
Your grill should now heat normally
To keep the regulator from sticking again make sure that you turn off the control valves first, then turn off the tank valve. Always open your tank valve slowly.
If this doesn't work give it a second try. If you still have low flame then you probably have a faulty regulator that will need to be replaced.
