Question about Audio & Video Receivers

1 Answer

Aspect ratio Bought STR-DA5300ES. Worked fine with 3-year old Hitachi Ultravision HTDV until 2 days ago. Then I had to manually select the aspect ratio for analog channels using my Hitachi remote. Today all my analog channels have black frames (top, bottom, and sides) or black bars (sides) or black frames with grey bars on the side. Even some of my HD channels show black bars. I have 6 aspect settings on my tv (4:3 normal, 4:3 expanded, 4:3 expanded 1, 4:3 expanded 2, 16:9 normal, and 16:9 expanded). Only 4:3 expanded 2 and 16:9 expanded fill my screen. Any suggestions?

Re: Aspect ratio

Problem is solved. I unplugged my DVR from my receiver for about a minute, reconnected it, and the that solved the problem.

Video out is wrong aspect ratio for 16:9 tv

You will have to set this on your TV as you Motorola receiver is not HD and it won't fill your TV screen. So i suggest to put your screen in standard mode until you get a HD receiver.

No sound on coax audio input from HDTV

Check your settings on your tv. You may have to turn off the internal tv speakers in the setup menu in order to get any audio output from the jacks on the back.

Hi I purchased a sony av amplifier model STR-DB930 on e-bay a few months ago and I am using 3 ohm speakers from my old surround sound system. The output selector on the back of the unit is set to 4 ohms....

The lower number in Impedance specs is not a suggestion. It's a limit. 3 is not between 4 and 8.

If you don't want to buy new speakers, settle for safer low volume levels.

You're going to kill that receiver driving a 3-ohm load. HTS-style speakers aren't reliably re-deployable to other electronics. Perhaps, if you have 4 speakers and they're similar you could wire them in SERIES and present a 6-ohm load to each channel.

Re-engineering the speakers themselves is, well, don't do it. It isn't rocket science but it also isn

Wii to a AVR 1610 via DVR input

"A" (single) component cable? Really? Not composite?

The source determines the aspect ratio of the video. If you decide to change it, that's your choice but it isn't accurate. 4x3 is intended to be shown 4x3. A circle will be elongated if you stretch the image to fit the screen.

Disregarding the black bars, is the geometry of the image correct? If so, why can't you just go with it?

If you want to change how the TV treats it, you'll have to refer to the TV's manual and controls.

5.1 willnot come up, 3/2 does.

My bet would be on settings. Check the owners manual. If you don't have one google "sony (your model #) owners manual" sony has almost all their owners manuals online at no cost.

5.1 Surround sound not working

Maybe the surround processor is having a bad day... My kenwood would do similar and a reset was necessary to correct. Have you tried resetting the system? On my Sony STR DE 597 this is accomplished by powering off. Then while holding the 2 channel button down (front face plate) power on. A reset message is displayed. Your model may be similar but check your manual or download the PDF of the manual from Sony's support website. Hope this helps

I hit the power button and NOTHING happens. It worked fine the other day and now nothing What should I do?

Mine too. It has very few hours on it (though 3 years old now), worked great up to the other day then now couldn't be more dead than it is. Is it repair shop time, or worse?

hi mate, ive had the same problem before with this amp. i bought it new aout 6 years ago and bought another new one about 1 year ago, new, for £70!

on the first amp there was a problem with the surround sound aspect, it kept overloading when turned up even a fraction, it would tick 4 times and power off. Eventually the surround sound stopped working all together and whenever selected made a VERY VERY loud hissing/crashing noise through all my speakers, blowing one of them, SO BE VERY CAREFULL.

when that happened i assumed was broken so bought another one, and had same overload trouble when i got a new speaker package.

Im pretty dam sure it was the ohmage ratings being different on 2 of the surround sound speakers that srewed the 1st one, so id suggest you check theyre all ok, as well as the speaker watt-age.

what are the specs on all your speakers (ohms and watts RMS)??

do you listen to LOUD music through the 5.1 option??

hope this helps, if all else fails buy a new one mate, theyre so cheap. go into panasonic shops and see if they have any left.
