CPU Cooling Fan Run Time

I recently purchased a toshiba satellite L505D-S5965 laptop, so far my biggest issue is the amount of time the cpu cooling fan cycles off and on. You can actually see a set time pattern to it, as I'm not a gamer or anything..I would have thought the fan wouldn't run nearly so much. Is there any way to control this ? This computer is less than two weeks old, and I've already checked to make sure all of the vents are clean.

It is normal for the fan to switch on and off (cycle). The run time depends upon the ambient temperature, the thermal switch setting and how hard the CPU is working at the time.
Some computers allow you to adjust the CPU operating temperature from the BIOS configuration, but this is not the norn.

Toshiba satellite l505d-s5983 fan not running continuously

Overheating When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermal overload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is the problem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are clogged with dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make sure the vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed air to do this.

Fan runs alot and the laptop over heats and shuts down

keep your notebook well ventilated (there are vent grills at bottom that ned to be kept ditanced from the notebook to the flat hard surface where you place the notebook. Also, try to clean the fan , by removing bottom cover : use air can to blow away dust - clean the fan. If the system has never been cleaned before, i can assure you there is mounds of duct inside , especially on the fins of the heatsink fan that cools your CPU and video card. I would also suggest getting air compressor to blow away the dust , if there is too much of it inside. YOU MAY HAVE TO REPLACE THE FAN unit . You can otherwise , go to teh BIOS set up nad reduce the fan speed.

How do I replace the keyboard?

next to the F1 key and the windows key (2nd upper key and second to last key) are two screws, usually under some covering. unscrew and lift top edge of the keyboard towards the trackpad to lay face down. Undo the wire ribbon by lifting the grey or brown tabs and remove ribbon and keyboard. Then install the new keyboard by inserting the ribbon on the place. Lock down with the tabs and put the plastic prongs (close to the space bar) into the laptop body first, and then close keyboard onto the final position. screw back in and thats all. for any additional questions.
