Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

Hi. I have a Neptune dryer that sometimes will not start. I can hear a kind of buzzing noise when I press the start button but the drum will not start to turn. The Model number is MDE3000AYW. I understand I need a motor and the part # for the motor is 33002478. My questions are (1)where is the best place for me to purchase the replacement motor? (2)And how difficult is it to get to the motor once I take the back cover off? And Thanks

Thank you for the information. Are you aware of other optios for me to purchase the part(s) I need. This website you gave me runs extrememly slow and in the instructional video the parts were being replaced on a washer instead of a dryer. Perhaps the parts are interchangeable, but its not clear. And becasue the site moves so slowly I am unabale to move around it to try to find out. Thanks

I have worked at sears appliance have come across exact or similar problems. You push the button and you hear something like a loud buzzing. My experience has been that the drive motor is locked and needs replacing. Depending on the age of the dryer and the cost of a motor and installation, you might but another dryer.

Dryer makes a buzzing noise when I turn it on but it doesn't come on, just buzzes.

Open the dryer door and slowly rotate the dryer drum in a counterclockwise (CCW) direction. Rotate the drum 2-3 revolutions and then shut the door and see if it will start. If it continues to just hum and not start could indicate a voltage issue, motor issue or a friction issue. Open the door again and locate the door switch plunger in the upper or lower corner on the hinge side of the drum opening. Hold the plunger in while someone begins rotating the drum counterclockwise. While turning the drum counter clockwise and holding the door switch plunger inwards press the start button. If it starts, there is likely a friction problem or motor problem.
What is the model number?

My gas dryer is a whirlpool LGR4634eq0. Timer starts but when I press the power button i hear a load noise( like a stuck hinge) and the dryer wont start. Help

The power button is usually called a "start" button. For as long as you hold it down, it provides power to the motor. When the motor gets up to speed, centrifugal force holds the switch closed for you. This is why a quick (short) opening of the door will not stop the dryer and a quick press of the start button will not start the dryer.
This, however, does not explain the noise...
The motor turns a belt which wraps (sort of) around a pulley which is on a spring (and also around the drum). The spring should hold tension on the belt, but the belt should not be so resistive (drum refuse to turn) to cause the tensioner to strike anything.
Can you turn the drum by hand?
The drum rides on two wheels. They should roll smoothly.
:o).

When we press the button to start the dryer, we hear the buzzing but the dryer does not move.

assume the buzzing quit when you release the start button. Open the dryer door and slowly rotate the dryer drum in a counterclockwise (CCW) direction. Drum will not turn and there is no heat.

This dryer has a circuit board that controls virtually everything. If it makes a buzzing noise when you press the power button to turn on the control panel, it's probably not going to be an easy fix. When you hire a professional, you avoid buying expensive parts that you might not need, such as a control board. If it makes a loud buzzing noise when you press the start button, it's possible that it could be a motor or belt problem. But again, I'd recommend a service call for this one.

Dryer drum will not turn

Try pushing start button while turing drum clock wise and see if drum will start spinning, sounds like bad start winding or relay
