Hi, I have a Seagate 7200.7 External HD that won't mount anymore. I saw there where some possible solution by connecting it on Com2 on a Windows 98 based PC but needed special HW, is there any possible SW ''soloution only'' on this problem? I have tried it on another PC with Vista as well, but wont work. I have Windows XP installed. Br Michael

Please remove the drive from the casing and mount it directly to your pc first through an interphase , if its sata just power it and connect the cable to sata connector in the mother board , i feel your drive will be mounted ... it means your interphase used has lost its rom information
if the drive still doesnt mount , then it has lost its firm ware and its usually the cert module of firmware.please pm me if you wont find any solution

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

My Seagate FreeAgent Pro HD won't turn on anymore. Any suggestions?

If it's not turning on at all anymore and it's plugged in properly, there isn't much you can do. Everything I've purchased from SeaGate wasn't meant to last. In other words, after a year or so, they quit working. It's probably some kind of marketing scheme to get you to spend more money. Open up the case, take out the drive and stick it in your computer. That way you can still salvage what's left on it.

Low beeping and non reading by macbook pro all of a sudden - HD seagate 1.5TB, worked fine for almost two years then non read by computer - help - tons of photo needed from HD

Hi, please anyone feel free to register on the site that the link takes you to so you can see the thread, it shows a link from You Tube on how to take the Seagate apart so anyone with the problem with the unit just making beep sounds and not being reconized by their P.C.
As all the threads i saw like my 1st thread reporting about my friends Seagate FreeAgent Desk 500GB asking about his problem and no-one was getting replies, and they where getting frustrated, I decided to find out. Someone has replied to my other thread with the same answer as taking it apart and connecting it to a P.C. So to help others who need their important files from the external HardDrive I have made a step by step guide so even novice P.C. users like myself can attempt to sort it out without being charged loads $-£ etc.. It seems unfair for all these users to buy something new and with in 1 week - 2 months it fails and they have important files etc.. stuck on the HardDrive and being charge to retrieve it. I'm not looking to cause any trouble just want to help others out. http://www.yo-lid.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=32&t?=84 You will find the thread in 'Technical ' under 'General Technical Issues ' please let me know how you get on thanks.

My computer does not see my external hard dive

Go to this webpage (Seagate) http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/ and choose from the SeaTools and FreeAgent Drivers that are appropriate for your OS and particular model. Formatting the harddrive should not have caused this problem of not being connected, but it is possible there was a piece of software that communicated with the computer that was removed via the format.

Seagate 9SF2A4-500 external hard drive on Windows 98

Windows 98 will not run a drive that large, so that is your problem. You will need to connect it to a newer system, and break it down into small drives by setting up different partitions. Perhaps it will see it then. Also, most manufacturers are no longer supporting Windows 98. You really need to just upgrade your system to a newer OS.

Seagate Freeagent 500gb Ext. HD not working.

Hi,
it´s my first time on this topic, but I´d recommend reinstalling it´s drivers, it sounds like it´s stuck there. Or just to be sure it is working ok, the both connections, esata and usb. If any of them work it´s ok. If not, come back, we´ll figure something out for you.

Windows 98 driver for FreeAgent

If your PC is still running Win98 then it probably has a USB version 1.0 port. I don't think the Faster USB version 2.0 devices will work properly even if you have the correct driver - i.e. you have a hardware version conflict. Try Purchasing a USB version 2.0 Daughter board for the PC and plugging the Seagate drive into that iinstead.
