If its making a loud clicking noise i would guess that the hard drive got jolted hard while shipping if possible send it back and get another one or if you have another hard drive put it in install windows and discard other drive very rare for them to get damaged during shipping(maybe you can get them to just send hd(hard drive)and drivers instead of whole computer!!!

Clicking noises and no recognition on computer

The read mechanism is stuck that is it is unable to move to the next section on the magnetic platen disk inside the hard drive \
It has come to the end - of - Life and need replacement.
To recover your data before it completely dies is to put the drive into a usb case and connect it to the computer that has a large capacity drive and backup the drive contents. You will have reload Windows to the new drive.

Mylacie drive is no longer connected to my computer. When it is turned on, there is a clicking noise and the LED light is alternating between red and yellow. What do you think the problem is?

when a disk makes a clicking noise, in most cases (99%) that means that the disk has crashed. i'm sorry to inform you that the data you had on the disk is lost, unless you are prepared to pay lots of money to a company that takes the disk apart to retrieve data manually.

Time for physical format ???

Formatting such a large hard disk will take a long time, especially if you do a full format (not a quick format).
Just let the computer do its thing, don't turn it off.

Gateway gt5220 beeping noises, fan on.

What may be happening is that files are corrupt as a result of a HD failure. This is not that uncommon. It has happened to my computers causing strange beeps and often repeated clicking noise coming from the hard drive. HD failure can happen anytime; when booting up, while the computer is running. The only way I've found to fix this is to buy a new hard drive and reinstall the operating system and programs you typically use.

You may be able to recover files from the ailing drive however. After you get the new hard drive working with your newly installed operating system and all is working, you can setup the ailing drive as a slave while setting your new drive as a master. You need to power off the computer and consult the data sheets for jumper settings.

This will allow you to boot up and access your old HD as a spare. If your lucky the data files, pics, music and documents you created will be in a region of the hard drive that isn't corrupted. Be prepared however to expect some unrecoverable files. If there is physical damage to the drive mechanism like a stuck read/write head then you may be totally out of luck. I have in some instances been able to unstick the HD by giving it a sharp rap on it's edge and even opening it to push the head free. Success for such a radical procedure is rare, but when it works, you have enough time to copy files over before enough dust collects on the exposed HD.

Assuming your able to access the old HD as a secondary drive, copy all of your files over to a backup directory on the new HD. I would recommend an expternal backup HD that can be used to automatically save your files before the next failure happens.

Loud noise

Typical problem in most computers, the fan is experiencing a "burn out." This means there is either something caught in the fan causing it to create noise, or the motor is going bad. there are two fixes for this problem.
1) open you computer's case according to its manual and remove the system cooling fan and give it a thorough cleaning.
2) you may need to replace the cooling fan with its recommended replacement model.

Hope this helps!
