Question about Dryers

2 Answers

I have a 6yr old dryer that does not come on except for the timer,it's OK. The switch in the top right of the space where the door opens just flops. No tension on it at all. This switch stops the dryer when the door is opened. It had already stuck in the run position. I think this switch is my problem but, I can't discover how to lift the top to access it. PLS HELP

I just pried the top off at the spot where the clips are. I am used to a GE which requires a push in; then lift. Thanks.

It would help us help you if you stated what model and brand you have. Many dryers use clips which hold the top of the dryer to the front panel. If yours has that, they can generally be released by using a putty knife to push back on them as you lift a bit on the dryers top. The clips are usually located a couple inches in from the sides, in the seam between the front panel and the dryer's top.

There is a door switch so that when you open the door the dryer turns off. Be sure to unplug dryer before trying to remove the switch, it needs a new switch put in.

Bought new timer for Prodigy but thought i set the wires from the old timer in proper sequence but doesnt work so maybe wrong wires on wrong terminals

Look at the wires. They have markings on them that match the markings on the timer. Did you check the Non-resetable limit? If it is open the dryer will not run.89819b0.jpg

Dryer Won't Start

Make sure it has power. Then:Check the door switch. A little lever sticking down through top right of door opening. If it is not there you will need new door switch(sometimes the little lever breaks off). If it is there and does not click when you press it in you need a new door switch. if it clicks when you close the door then you have a bad thermal fuse. The thermal fuse is found by taking the back of the dryer off. The fuse is an oblong white plastic piece with 2 wires attached.

Dryer will not start, put a new start button,

The dryer is electric? not gas? If so you may have 110 and 1 side and not on the other. Reset the breaker and make sure you have 110v on each hot leg. You say start button I assume you mean door switch for the light? Have you checked the bulb? If this is already yes to this point open the top up and look at the wires coming to the door switch 1 of them is most likely chewed into by a mouse or something. the light has to have power to it all the time the door is open no power no light because I dont believe it gets any power except from the main power terminals not the timer or anything else .

Dryer has just stopped working, no power what so ever.

Check the timer switch. All the power goes through that switch and they do fail over time. If that isn't the source of the problem, then check the door switch. When they fail, just like a top-load washer door switch, NOTHING will work because it senses the door is open even when it's closed. Those are two most obvious things and the easiest to check.

Hope that helps!

Roper dryer won't shut off

The timer motor isn't moving the timer. You'll need to replace the timer. Turning the timer **** to off should stop the machine.
Exception: If the shutting the door automatically starts the motor, then the start switch/relay is probably shorted.

Clothes Dryer will not stop or be quiet

On some Kenmore which is made by whirlpool, there is a resistor connected to the timer control. when the machine is off can you listen to the timer switch and hear it running, making a clock ticking sound? If so, you need a new resistor. Being a dryer, when you open the door and it stops the button needs to be reset before it starts again, right? So I wouldnt be looking at the door switch as much as the start button. It may be the evil one.
