CONFUSION WITH INTEL CORE DUO AND INTEL PENTIUM DUAL CORE!

I'm confused with intel core duo and intel pentium dual core.(intel pentium DUAL CORE is my current processor)when i use system requirements lab, if i check a game's sys requirements let's say it needs an intel core duo .i have intel pentium dual core but the sys requirements labs says i pass the sys requirement.well for other games that need an intel core duo processor like GRID, i failed to pass the required processor.i am 100% sure that my processor is an intel PENTIUM DUAL CORE.i even tried cpu-z.my motherboard is an acer f672cr (m1610).oh and before i forget, sometimes sys requirements lab says my cpu speed like this.(YOU HAVE 2 PROCESSORS RUNNING.PERFORMANCE RATED AT 4.95 GHZ) MY PROCESSORS SPEED IS JUST 2.20GHZ.I NEED SERIOUS HELP!

You are worrying about nothing.

Intel Pentium Dual Core and Intel Celeron Dual Core are both Intel Core Dual processors.

The performance rate is mesured compared to a single core processor so your 2.2GHz dual core will do the same amount of work as a 4.95GHz single core.

  • Alun Cox Sep 06, 2009

No if you read the system requirements the dual core processor must be rated at 2.66GHz.

That is the rate for each individual core

Yours is rated as a 2.20 dual core.

You are getting confused between core rating and overall system performance rating.

Is my intel d945gtp board supports the dual core prosessor?plzzz tell me

No it doesn't support Pentium Dual Core processor/s. It support Intel Pentium D, Intel Pentium 4 and Intel Celeron D processors. You can check out the supported processor lists HERE.
Note: Don't confuse with Pentium D and Pentium Dual, they are different.
Hope this helps.
Let me know if you need further help.
Good Luck.

I want to buy a laptop. Please suggest me which processor is best? ie. Intel pentium processor or intel pentium dual core processor? Will intel pentium dual core processor overheat easily?

hello,,,,,,,,,,,,,
First you need to be clear that dual core is the family of Pentium series. so there is no processor called Pentium.............. now regarding your question i would suggest you do not go for dual core... Take core 2 duo or I3 /I5/I7 series of processor..............
I am giving you a configuration in a good budget

Rs 50,800/-
Intel 3 GHZ Core2 Duo Processor,3 GB DDR2/DDR3 RAM, and a 250/320/500 GB HDD. DVD writer, 15.4-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 dpi. integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 video card, integrated modem and sound card, Wifi, Touchpad mouse and in-built speakers. It has interfaces like Express Card slot, S-Video port, 4 USB ports, Firewire port, bluetooth and a 6 in 1 Digital Media Reader. The laptop comes with an inbuilt camera .

It would be better if you can tell me your budget ............... So that i can give you a good configuration ......................

Pentium 1.80 or pentium 2.8..I just recently got hired and I was told I need Pentium (4) 2.8 GHz or equivalent. I have Pentium 1.80 GHz (the numbers are confusing me once again)...thank you!

The Compaq Presario SR5410F has a dual core processor running at 1.80 GHZ
Dual core means that it is actually two processors running at that speed so you easily pass the Pentium 4 2.8 benchmark as shown in this table. the E2160 processor is not shown but the E2180 is close enough for you to get the idea compared with the lowly P4 2.8

Need a prossesor for motherboard

You can also use any other intel 775 socket processor as well. The dual cores are at the top of the list for performance that are compatible with that board, but if you're looking for a cheaper solution, I have that board with a 3GHz pentium 4 and it runs great. Here's a list of all the processors you can use.
Intel Pentium 4 (2.66 - 3.80 GHz)
Intel Celeron D (2.53 - 3.60 GHz )
Intel Pentium 4 Extreme Edition
(3.20 - 3.73 GHz)
Intel Pentium D (2.66 - 3.60 GHz)
Intel Pentium Extreme Edition
(3.20 - 3.73 GHz)
Pentium Dual-Core (1.40 - 2.80 GHz)
Intel Core 2 Duo (1.60 - 3.33 GHz)
Intel Core 2 Extreme (2.66 - 3.20 GHz)
Intel Core 2 Quad (2.33 - 3.00 GHz)
Intel Xeon (1.86-3.40 GHz)
Intel 'Core' Celeron (1.60 - 2.40 GHz)

Hilw,, what is the difference between atom and intel core duo processor??

The Atom is a low power single core processor, it is roughly same speed and similar microinstruction set as a pentium 4 single core, and uses far less power and produces less heath than a regular pentium 4.

The intel core duo is a dual core processor that uses 64-bit core duo (dual cpu inside) processor.

I would like to purchase a laptop. I'm confused about choosing a processor from intel dual core and core 2 duo. please help me choosing the processor

Intel Core 2 Duo is the latest laptop processor intel has made so it is newer than the original dual core. They have a few different cpu's so depending on your budget choose the core 2 duo with the fastest speed you can afford. Hope this helps & please take a moment to rate this solution. Thanks.

E2180 Vs Athlon 64 X2 5000+

depends on what you plan to do with the cpu amd are good but a 3200 may only run @ 1.8 to 3.2 ghz depending while a intel 3200 will run 3.2 ghz.
I believe intel are more stable & run cooler than AMD but AMD benchmarks on Games better but run hotter (so get a good cooling fan & heatsink both pentium / celeron d & intel dou / dual core / core 2 dou and amd x2 have 2 cores (but watch your front side bus and cache the higher the better but the more $ also) then You need a good stable mobo that supports the chip you get (I preffer asus & msi for Gamers and biostar / msi for home users)

Difference b/w Core to duo and daul core

Core 2 Duo is a Brand name by intel to identify his class of Dual core CPU

a Dual core CPU is basically two CPU in one package, which dramatically improves performance over previous architectures.

Pentium Dual Core is another brand name by Intel to identify his new entry level CPU offer.Basically Pentium dual-core are similar to Core 2 Duos except they(pentiums) are slower and cheaper.
they both are dual core CPUs.
I would prefer a core 2 Duo having to choose a laptop because of better performance, but the prize is different for the two solutions.

There really is no difference, there are differences in the E numbers though. Those are specificallt about it's GHz's, it L1 and L2 cache.

Though Intel Core 2 Duo is the same as Intel Dual Core. It's just a different name. This confusion is caused because of Intel changing the names of it's processors series. The Pentium brandname for example is gone. Intel Pentium Dual Core is now called Intel Core 2 Duo.

I hope this answered your question.

Greetings,

DarkNeogen.
