My philips gogear 4g is pluged in and works but when i unplug it it says low battery and shuts off immediatly it has been left on for 4 hours now trying to fully charge it will not charge is the battery...

If the media player battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out.Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles andwill lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% andgradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR Thebattery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the batterydrops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to anunacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced.

The battery lasts a short amount of time

Sounds like a replacement battery is needed. The link above should help you.

It may be cheaper to buy a new MP3 player.

Also you can check with batteries plus. Many times their technicians can replace the battery for you, and you can recycle the old battery there.

Good luck,

I listen to the music for 1 hour. I turn the lock switch off. The next day the Go gear MP3 has completely discharged. I re charge it on the pc. The screen reads 'Fully charged'. The same thing...

There are two things possible.
1) You have defective re chargeable batteries in your GoGear.
2) There is some short circuit because of which the re chargeable cells are discharging.
Either way you should get the system changed. If you want to confirm if its the battery defect or GoGear. Charge the system fully and play music continuously. If the Go Gear plays for about 4 hours with out break---- its not the battery but the charging system.

Plugged GOGEAR in computer, will not charge anymore and will not come on at all, was working fine just stopped doing everything

bring up device manager, turn the device off, then plug into the computer, with finger on the + volume. it should prompt the computer to diagnose the problem, then you can click on repair, in the device manager. I had similar problem and this worked short term, but now it is happening over and over. I think the battery may not be as rechargeable as advertised. I have had this about a year and use it a lot, but don't want to buy another one. I cannot download music now, so have to call support. This should fix your issue short term

New battery?

Yes. It takes a Rechargeable Li-polymer 280mAh
battery. Just unscrew the back carefully with a miniature Phillips-head screwdriver and replace.

Here's a better solution - no offense, silly girl. First, find out if the computer will recognize the GoGear when you plug it in. If so, then use the Repair function in the Philips Device Manager.
If the computer doesn't recognize the player: Disconnect the GoGear from the computer, and turn the player off. Hold in the volume + button and continue to hold it as you re-plug the GoGear back into the computer. After 45 seconds to one minute, Windows will go into recovery mode and resucitate your player.

Also, the number for the Manufacturer - Philips - is
1-866-PHI-LIPS (or was it 1-888? - one of these is an adult line, the other is not) :-)
