Question about Fisher and Paykel Dryers

No heat on F&P DGGX1 dryer.

Hello,

I have a DGGX1 Gas F&P dryer that doesn't heat at all but runs normally otherwise. It's about 4-5 years old. Gas supply good. Got the Service Summary out of the top console. If I'm entering diag. mode correctly, then no DRYING PROGRESS LED lights means no DTC's? Noted on your site info. about fragile Ignitor. Do you have normal resistance value for same? ( this ignitor about 75 ohms) or other diag. techniques besides resistance check or other suspect components and their specs for same symptom?

Thank you much.

    Hello protek480,

After putting the top deck, console & lid back on but leaving the front panel off for viewing. I plugged in the power supply, started the machine & saw the ignitor and noted it was not glowing. So I checked for power to the ignitor first; there wasn't any. Looking at the F&P wiring schematic, I then checked for power back to the "Manual Reset"(no power) to the motor control module "Mains/Relay A" terminal 1, orange wire(no power). I've removed the ignitor and visually inspected it for melting, fractures, etc. What should be my next steps? How can I test/decipher for the no power out of Motor Control Module? Can Sensor Module signal MCM to cut this power supply to the gas heater?

    Thanks,

    Richard

    Hello there,

Letting you know that I believe I have the fix pinned down. I jumpered the "Auto Reset Thermostat" terminals and the ignitor glows/heats & lights the burner. The faulty sensor/switch is open circuit all the time and this condition appears to cause the Motor Control Module to open the power circuit to the rest of the gas heater assembly; apparently for safety.

    thanks,

    Richard Bowman

When dryer first starts, do you see the ignitor glowing? If not, change the ignitor. It yes (glowing) change the gas valve. That's it! The ignitor glowing indicates current flow to gas valve, and it should open.

That resistance for the ignitor sounds good. It looks like the coil on the gas valve is bad and needs changing.

The dryer is not giving any heat.

Sounds like the heating element has burned out. If it's an older dryer then that's probably the case. If it's newer I would check the warranty.

My whirlpool dryer comes on and runs good but it wont get hot can you tell me whats the problem

Hello there and welcome to fixya there are several things that could make this dryer not heat up
Here are the most common things

Thermal Fuse

If the dryer doesn\'t heat, but the drum
turns, check the thermal fuse(s). The thermal fuse protects the dryer
from overheating and helps to prevent fires. If the thermal fuse is
blown, it will have to be replaced.

Enter your model number to see parts for your dryer.

Help me find my model number

Gas Valve Solenoid

The gas valve has two or more electric
solenoids which open the valve to let the gas flow into the burner
assembly. If the dryer doesn\'t heat one or more of the solenoids may be
defective. If the igniter glows for 90 seconds but the burner flame
doesn\'t light, replace these coils as a set.

Dryer Igniter

If the dryer doesn\'t heat, the igniter might
be burned out. Check the igniter for continuity with an ohm meter. Dryer
igniters burn out over time, similar to a light bulb.

Heating Element

The heating element on an electric dryer can
burn out over time. If the dryer doesn\'t heat, the element should be
checked for continuity. The heating element cannot be repaired and must
be replaced if defective.

Heating Element Assembly

the heating element assembly on an electric
dryer can burn out over time. If the dryer doesn\'t heat, the element
assembly should be checked for continuity. The heating element assembly
cannot be repaired and must be replaced if defective.

Flame Sensor

Gas dryers have a flame sensor to detect the
heat given off by the flame. If the dryer doesn\'t heat, the flame sensor
might be defective. Check the flame sensor for continuity. This is not
as common as a burned out igniter or thermal fuse.

High Limit Thermostat

Although not common, if the dryer doesn\'t
heat the high limit thermostat can be defective. It can be checked for
continuity. If the thermostat is "open" the dryer doesn\'t heat.

Cycling Thermostat

The cycling thermostat regulates the
temperature of the air in the dryer. If the dryer doesn\'t heat it may be
caused by a defective cycling thermostat. This is not common.

Main Control Board

The main control board is normally not at
fault when the dryer doesn\'t heat. Check all of the other components in
this troubleshooting guide before replacing the main control board. The
main control board cannot be tested easily and must be replaced if it is
defective.

Timer
The timer is normally not at fault if the
dryer doesn\'t heat. In many situations where timers are replaced they
end up being returned. Check all of the more common components in this
troubleshooting guide before replacing the timer

DOESNT HEAT AND I SMELL GAS

Hello - From what you are describing, if the dryer only heats up sometimes but provides a gas odor, it could possibly be a defective gas supply or igniter. Try resetting the unit by unplugging it or flipping the household circuit breaker off. Wait approximately ten minutes and turn on the fuse for the dryer. Turn on the dryer and select a normal cycle. If it proves to be ineffective and if the issue continues I suggest contacting a professional to move forward accurately. Keep in mind since it is such a complex unit, the technician will likely verify that it doesn't have a defective sensor, control board or high limit thermostat.

Dryer runs but no heat. My husband is pretty smart with appliance fixes. Do you think that this thermal fuse solution would be easier enough for him to fix or should we get a repairman?

Hello,
The thermal fuse is not going to be the problem...when the thermal fuse has gone out the dryer will not start so since it runs the thermal fuse is good. The number one thing that is wrong with a gas dryer when it doesn't heat is going to be a broken igniter, this tip i wrote explains what to check when a gas dryer doesn't heat http://www.fixya.com/support/r10293028-gas_dryer_not_heating
