Turn off the system.
Turn on and press Ctrl+F11 immediately. It will take you to the DELL Complete PC restore which will help you restore to factory settings.

Without a re-install disk, you are unable to re-install windows. The function key is most likely F2 or F10, 11, or 12. It is also possible that it could be the delete button.

Reinstall Windows from the DELL CD-ROMs that were shipped with the computer.
Or, telephone DELL, and order a replacement set of "System Restore" CD-ROM disks.
Or, access http://support.dell.com and click "Detect My System" and the web-site will guide you to the correct device-drivers for your Dell motherboard.

Put recovery disk in the CD drive. On reboot, hold down F12 key. You should get a choice of drives to boot from. Make sure the first two are in the correct order:

1. CD-ROM (optical drive)
2. HDD (hard drive)

then press F10 to save and exit.

Now the laptop should boot correctly from the recovery disk.
