Question about Nikonos SB-105 UW TTL Speedlight Set 11202 Imported Flash

1 Answer

I HAVE THE NIKONOS SPEEDLIGHT SB 103. I INSERTED 4 NEW AA BATTERIES AND TESTED ALL 4 SEPARATELY. I CLEANED ALL 4 TERMINALS OF THE CARTRIDGE BEFORE I INSERTED THE BATTERIES. I AM NOT GETTING A LIGHT WHEN I TURN THE UNIT TO ANY OF THE SETTINGS (TTL, FULL, 1/4, 1/16). I DID THIS WITH IT CONNECTED TO THE CAMERA AND WITH IT DETACHED. I CAN'T FIND THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL TO TEST THE BULB, BUT I CAN'T GET A FLASH WITH THE UNIT ATTACHED TO MY NIKONOS IV-A. IT WORKED GREATER ON THE BARRIER REEF, BUT I CAN'T GET IT WORKING NOW. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

SOURCE: no iTTL mode (or TTL mode) in SB 800 synced with cord to D300

Umberh, why do you need to use a cable to trigger the SB800through the D300 (even D70s and D200)? You can use the 'remote off-camera flash' with the built-in flash as commander. Here's how to do it:

  1. From the custom settings menu on the camera, select 'Bracketing/Flash'
  2. Select 'flash cntrl for built-in-flash
  3. Select 'Commander Mode'
  4. Set the built-in flash to '--'. This will make the built-in flash trigger the SB800 without registering itself in the shot. Also set one channel (this should be the same you set on the flash for the built-in-flash and SB800 to communicate)
  5. Now on the SB800, hold down SEL button for a few seconds
  6. Choose the icon with two flashes with curved arrows and press SEL to select it
  7. Now on the menu at the right, select REMOTE
  8. Press the on/off button to get back to the main menu.
  9. Make sure that you have selected the same channel (indicated CH) on both the camera and the flash
Now you don't need a TTL cord to trigger the flash. If you want the built-in-flash as master and SB800 as slave, the select Master instead of '--' in step 4.

SOURCE: Speedlight SB-80DX TTL Flash ideal for NIKON D60?

It works but it's not ideal. The SB-80DX won't support TTL flash on the D60, only non-TTL Auto and Manual. The SB-800 is the most capable flash unit for the D60, but you can get full TTL operation with the less expensive SB-600 or SB-400.

New batteries, slow for "ready"

Hi!

You can have a fast charging of your flash only by using best quality batteries.
I recomend for "continuous shooting" to use LITHIUM AA 1.5V CELLS. They are indeed more expensive than other types, but the quality is the best.

Please let me know if it helped.

Bought a Nikon Speedlight SB-600 in August. Tested the flash and it fired ok. I took out the flash a few days ago to use at a graduation and the "ready" light did not come on. Consequently it did...

Hi grwcamp, Sorry to hear about it not working at the graduation. Are in the correct position (I am sure you did but, we must start someplace). Look inside, see if there is battery acid in there.
If with new/fresh batteries it still does not work call Nikon. You have a warranty on it so it should be covered.

SB-600 flash suddenly dead. Found some early corrosion on the AA batteries. What happened? Repairable?

Hi degossman, Corrosion is sometimes a fix us users can do. Other times it must go in for repair. What happens is the corrosion may leak past the point we can see in to the internals of the housing eating out wiring.

I have a Nikon D40x with a Nikon Speedlight SB-800. The speedlight is not working. I have the camera on, new batteries in the speedlight and speedlight on. Not powering up. Is there some secret battery...

With new batteries in the flash, and it being off camera what happens when you press the test button. If still it does not flash call Nikon 1-800-645-6689
