Question about NetGear RangeMax WPN824 Router

PS3 NAT type 3 issue

I have a broadband cable internet connection that works fine. My service is with a smaller cable company called Broadstripe. I have spoke with my ISP and they have told me that there should be no security issue with the phone modem/router (find that hard to believe). I have a an internet phone modem/router (InnoMedia MTA6328-2Re) and a Netgear RangeMax (WPN824 v3) wireless router. My connection goes like this (setup the way ISP recommends) Internet - Cable modem (I think its an Ambit U10C018 not really clear on the labeling) - WAN port on phone modem/router - LAN port on phone modem/router - to the internet port on wireless router. My pc is wired to a port 1 on the router. I have tried portforwarding both and using the dmz on both with no results. I was able to get NAT type 2 on a wired connection using the dmz on the digital phone modem/router. I want to using my wireless connection. How can I get nat type 2?

Just in case you need to know. NAT type 3 is restricted. NAT type 2 is open. NAT type 3 makes it very difficult to play online and will often kick you out of game matches if you can get into one.

The firmware is updated to the most recent version. This happens automatically when you first install and every time you acess the router setup through your internet browser.

SOURCE: Need nat type 2-PS3 Cable ISP digital phone modem wireless route

you can put your ps3 in a dmz zone. if still does not work its not your router. u can keep your ps3 in dmz and get your router to open ports. u can call your router company. If still does not work its not your router more than likely. It might be your modem. i have at&t and that was my issue. i went to dmz on modem and allowed it to pass through dmz zone and ip addresses to pass through. but make sure on your comp u have spyware or something. Your ps3 can not get virus.

I am trying to games on PS3 and cannot connect with friends. I believe this is because I have NAT Type 3 (closed) and I would like to change it to NAT Type 2 (moderate) but I do not know how.

Hi ..

The PS3 has 3 different NAT types. They are shown below.
Type 1: The PS3 is connected to the Internet without a firewall or router. No NAT issues.Type 2: The PS3 is connected to the Internet through a router which is configured correctly. No NAT issues.Type 3: The PS3 is connected to the Internet through a router that needs configuring.Ideally, you want to have a Type 2 NAT. However, a Type 1 NAT does not affect your game play.

First of all you will have to Disable the firewall in the Router / Modem

If you are using a Router ..

Then

Make sure that UPnP(Universal Plug n Play) is enabled
Enable the IP Address of the PS3 in DMZ

Or Forward the ports

Below are the TCP and UDP ports that need to be forwarded:

TCP: 80, 443, 5223
UDP: 5223, 3478, 3479, 3658

For more details on port forwarding , log on to http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm

Hope it helps

(ps3) How to change Nat type 3. I found a guide online it was to complicated.

Nat 3 means that your PS3 is having problems accessing the internet connection. The best way to resolve this is to not play online using wifi just connect your PS3 directly into your router via an Ethernet cable. If this doesn't work call your internet provider and they will be more than glad to fix your problem.

How do you open nat type on the ps3 ?

Nat type is actually defined by your isp..(internet service provider) some companies do not actually support gaming and therefore their service is considered "strict" by ps3 standards for multiplayer gaming online. You may have to reconfigure your pc internet security settings on the computer itself...possibly logging into your router/modem. If this is not helpful or u are unsure of how to do this, contact your isp and explain to them you want the nat type changed...basically they will either not be able to at all and then u need a new isp or they can do it in a matter of minutes and ur nat type will change and give u full access to ps3 online within a matter of hours...hope it helps and u get back to gaming!

How do i change my nat type

go on a computer.

1. in the internet address bar type in 192.168.1.1 or routerlogin.net
2. enter admin and password in the fields
3. your now in your routers setup
4. find a setting called nat
5. set it to open instead of secure

this changes your nat type to 2
if that doesnt work

1. login to router as usual, but find a setting called default dmz server
2. enter the IP address of your PS3 as the dmz server (to see what your ps3's ip is go to network > connection settings and have a look.

this should definitley make it a nat 2 - but try the first method
