You will need to turn the pump off. the vac port is spring loaded and in addition, when the pump is running, you have to fight the suction as well.

I cant get my Dyson canister to reattach correctly.

Hi Gayla, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty replacing your DC28's clear bin and cyclone. They should lift away from the machine when you push the red release catch, and should reattach in the same way without any issues.

From what you've described it sounds as if something is out of place. You may want to remove and replace the washable HEPA post-filter as shown in the video below - if the clear post-filter cover isn't fitted correctly this could prevent the bin from sitting correctly on the vacuum. Make sure all the black rubber seals are in position, and that the bin base is closed all the way around. It's also a good idea to check the red release catch for any damage.

Cannot reconect hose at base dyson dc8

Hi Joei, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC18's hose should clip back onto the machine without difficulty. It just pushes into place, and you should hear and feel a click as it locks securely. You might find the tips in our Support guide useful:

If you'd like further guidance on reattaching it, please give the Dyson customer Helpline a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA), or 1800 239 766 (AU).

The hose does'nt click into the unit

Hi there,

If you've removed the hose from your DC24 and are trying to reattach it to the machine, please ensure the lower cord hook is facing away from the machine. When aligned correctly, you should find it slides vertically down into the socket and locks in place with an audible 'click'.

If you're having difficulty doing this, or if you'd like any further assistance or advice, please call us free on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US).

Shop vac is not pumping out water just fills the canister

The question makes perfect sense assuming we are talking about the ShopVacPumpVac. These devices are, essentially, a combination shop vac and sump pump. For those answering the question, you can see literature on these vacuum/sumps here: .

When I have experienced the loss of drainage, I have found a couple obvious problems and solutions.

First, make sure that the garden/discharge hose is not kinked at any point along the line from the vacuum to the outside. If kinked, the line will not drain.

Second, the baffle can become blocked or clogged. Take the following steps to determine if your baffle is clogged and to clear the clog:

1. Turn off and unplug the vacuum.
2. Unclip the two lid clips.
3. Lift the lid of the vacuum. When properly set up, the baffle hangs below the filter housing on an opaque hose about 1 foot in length.
4. Grasp that hose and pull firmly downward. Once removed, I take that hose and the attached baffle to an outside garden hose.
5. Pull the baffle off the opaque hose.
6. Spray water from your garden hose through the opaque hose to make sure it is clear.
7. Spray the baffle clear.
8. Lightly tap the port of the baffle, where the opaque hose has been inserted. Most of my clogs have been the result of hair balls (or worse) at this point. Just tap any blockage out and rinse.

Third, reattach the baffle to the opaque hose. Reattach the opaque hose and baffle to the motor under the filter housing. Set the vacuum top on the canister. Click the locking clamps closed.

If this doesn't result in clearing the clog and allowing it to drain, then you are in the exact spot I am right now. If I figure out this new problem, I will update further. But I have cleared this kind of clog maybe five times in the six months I've been using this new Shop Vac Sump Vac

The clear hose on the bottom is plugged and I see no way to take that hose off and clean it out

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC14. The clear internal hose simply pulls loose from the rear underside of the machine. You can then unscrew it from the soleplate. You reattach it by reversing these steps.

If you have any difficulty doing this, or if the internal hose is split or damaged, please get in touch with us directly so one of our experts can provide assistance. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Kind regards,

Dyson Customer Service.

I put a new vacuum bag in and I get no sunction at the other end of the hose.

Make sure the hose is attached securely to the main vacuum body.

Make sure there are no obstructions in the hose or at the hose opening in the body.

Make sure the cover for the vacuum cleaner bag compartment is securely shut.

Good luck.

My dyson animal 25 wand won't go into tube

We have a DC65 Animal, the extension tube on the hose would not slide into the top of the handle.

The solution:
1. Slide the hose into the cradle on the handle
2. Push the tube down close to its stowed position
3. Near the bottom of the hose, gently push the hose against the handle with one hand and then push the tube down with your other hand
4. Close the cap on the top of the handle

I cannot pull out the wand...appears to be stuck

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having a problem with your DC27. A jammed wand is easy to rectify by following these simple steps:

  • Pull the wand up as far as it will go
  • Locate base of hose on rear of machine and pull hose away from the machine
  • Pull hose release tab, and pull the hose away from the machine to untwist it
  • Reattach hose to machine
You should untwisting the hose frees the wand, allowing unrestricted motion. However, if you're still experiencing difficulties, please get in touch with us free, on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US), so we can assist you.

Kind regards,
