PS3/HDMI Cable problem. PLEASE HELP

Just bought my PS3 today as well as an HDMI cable. I hook it all up, plug everything in. When I start the PS3 it asks if I would like to continue using HDMI etc etc etc. I say yes and the screen goes black. No audio or video can be seen or heard :(

Let's clarify your set up. PS3 with HDMI output, HDMI cable and a TV or Moniter with HDMI input. TV or Moniter is setup to automatically select HDMI, correct?

Make sure you have the TV on the right input. Make sure it is on HDMI, and if you have multiple HDMI inputs look at the number embossed on the one you are using for your tv. Then his "input" or it might be called "Source" on your tv's remote. Match the input on the tv to what you plugged into the back of the tv and you should get a picture.

Please do the following steps to reset your PS3 display :-

Turn the PS3 off into standby mode (red light on)

Press and hold the power button. It will beep when you first press it then beep again 5 seconds later. Release the power button when you hear this second beep.

All picture and no sound

Rick:
simply unplug--then replug--your HDMI cable. Or also go into the audio setup menu and reapply the "automatic" setting for HDMI to get the sound to work. I don't know if Sony can do anything about this or not in a firmware upgrade, but what it can do is try to simplify the labeling on some of the sound settings.

I have a HDMI problem with my PS3. I have it

Try entering Recovery Mode and choose "Restore Default Settings".

If that doesn't help, you may have an HDMI port failure - which will require returning the unit to Sony or sending it to a third-party PS3 repair shop.

Ive had my PS3 hooked up using HDMI for years now but i bought a component cable because i have just bought a PVR and it can only record using component and not HDMI. The problem im getting is that when i...

Hook it up with the component cable and then hold the power button on the console until something comes up on screen. Make sure you have selected the component input on your tv or else you wont get anything anyway.

What holding the power button does is it resets the video settings to the lowest common denominator and then you can reconfigure it for the optimal picture quality of the component cables.

If that doesn't work double check the component connections on the back of the TV and just make sure they are where they should be and that no accidents were made while hooking it up.

Please post the results from these steps here so that I know what happened.

Console starts up and I can hear but shows no picture.

make sure video cable is plugged in all the way on back of ps3. the a/v cable is little tricky. it looks like its plugged all the way but its not. also if doesnt work, if u have hdmi cable use it then go to display settings, then connetions. set it up as av cable connection then it will ask about audio - av rca connetions. and save. now its set up as av cables and then when u use hdmi it will automatically set up hdmi.

I just bought my Philips 32" lcd tv and tried to hook up the ps3

you have to first plug in the s-video before you use hdmi so you can set it to HDMI on your ps3 when you go to your setting. Then it should work. If you already did that and it still doesnt work its probably the HDMI cord

Hello can you help with this error!

When you switch from one cable connection to another (Hdmi to AV etc) you need to reset the PS3 to its default settings. Basically what is happening is, your PS3 is set to HDMI, so when you plug in AV cables it doesn't know it. So you have to reset it. Hook your PS3 up to whatever cables (make sure system is fully off) then hold the front power button down for a few seconds.

Doing this will reset the display settings. You can then go into the XMB (main menu) and choose your connection. Although the PS3 should do this during the start up on its own.

Hope this helps.
