To be sure that the circuit board is the problem you need to check the defrost heater and defrost thermostat. It they are good then the board is the problem. Check here>How to check stuff> http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/refrigerator/refrigerator.php

freezer blows cold air to fridge, sometimes freezer freezes at back and blocks holes for outlet to fridge, defrost and restart, or take back panel off freezer and chip clear

GE GSH@@KGMDWW freezer not freezing. replaced defrost heater and both thermistors in freezer about 3 months ago, been working fine until now. the evaporator fan is running.

Assuming all wiring is still okay and your new components are still working, check for the defrost termination safety, which is a bimetallic disc or the main circuit board has failed.

What causes the coils behind the panel in the freezer to freeze up and stop the freezer fan? top half of freezer defrosts, lower half stays cold.Fridge is side by side and freezer fan keeps turning of

When the evaporator fan motor stops running the top half of the back wall of the freezer will frost over and the the only reason the lower portion stays cool is because cold air falls. More than likely you have a a dc motor fan and its bad, but be wary with ge, the main control board could also go bad causing the fan not to run.

Ge side by side ref.

no,its more than likely the defrost heater located just under the coil thats freezing up,check this heater for continuity,if its o.k. then test the defrost thermostat thats clipped onto the same coil near the top of the coil, note, the defrost thermostat needs to be below 15 degrees to check good as its a thermal switch, then if still problems then check the main board in the back of the unit behind a panel this is where the defrost circuit gets its power, but i will likely say its the heater thats open because i replace about 5 per week with the same issue as yours

Freezer is freezing but fridge is not freezing

Did you check to see if you have ice build up on the evaporator coils in the freezer? If there is ice then you have a defrost circuit problem. This circuit is made up of the defrost heater, defrost thermostat and defrost timer (which on newer units has been incorporated onto the main circuit board.

Ge frig does not freeze on freezer side

How to check everything
http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/refrigerator/refrigerator.php
If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

You can turn the defrost timer till it clicks and everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replace the timer. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn the timer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.

The frost free freezer keeps freezing up and making the refridgerator part not cold

I would take a ohm reading on the circuit board between the defrost (J9) and the line (J4) terminals to see if the defrost element is not burned apert

Freezer defrosts too long.

I might first suspect the defrost bi-metal thermostat located in the freezer compartment behind the interior panel. It's clipped onto the coils and is usually a little round disk with a couple wires coming out of it. The reason I susupect it is that little device is what "opens" to kill power to the heater once the temps get hot enough to have finished melting the ice on the coils. If that is stuck "closed" or opens WAY out of it's heat range then the heat element will stay on way too long. Next is the actual defrost timer which can be a clock type timer or a circuit board. If you go to this site use GSS22JEM for the model number. Item 240 is the bi-metal, 241 is the thermistor sensor. http://www.partselect.com/Schematics/GE/00113124i06.gif Item 801 is the control board. http://www.partselect.com/Schematics/GE/00113123i02.gif
