Take a Q-Tip "dampened" in rubbing alcohol and clean the contacts on the card and inside the slot if you can get in there. If the Q-Tip will not fit, blow out the card slot with an aerosol can of commpressed air. These can be purchased in any RadioShack or Staples etc.If none of these work then you've got to by a new card. 2gb is usually sufficient if you go for a card of higher content availability it just takes that much longer for the computer to read it.

Usually when you get this it's because of two issues...either the little lock has been pushed in the locked position and is causing the card not to be read, or the card is not supported by the camera, possibly because it is of a size that is not supported like 4 GB is not supported in a lot of cameras yet. 2 GB is the usual standard still, but is changing day by day.

ALTERNATE WAY TO TRANSFER PHOTOS AND VIDEOS TO A COMPUTER
If your photos and videos are stored on the memory card, then remove the memory card from the camera and insert it into an USB memory card reader. Connect this USB memory card reader and memory card into the USB port of your working computer. Your computer will see this as an USB Mass Storage Device or an external storage device; you can then open the folder on the memory card and copy the photos and to your computer. Memory card reader is a handy device and is inexpensive. You can copy photos from other cameras and you can also download photos off your memory card to someone else's computer without the need of installing any programs.

Sd card does not make contact with camera terminals, intermittant problem.

There is a very small switch on the side of the SD card holder that detects that a card is inserted. It sounds like the switch is either bent, broken, or not making good contact. This really isn't repairable - you need to replace the card holder. Unfortunately with your camera the card holder only comes with a large very expensive assembly (it nets out in the 80-90 dollar range) that includes the front circuit board and the battery compartment.

Picutes taken, cannot find them, when turn camera on it says "images recorded to internal memory". How do you retrieve these photos?

You'll have to use the USB cable that should have been provided with your camera to plug it directly into your computer. Then you should be able to see both the memory card and the internal memory as if they were two separate cards on your computer. If you get a connection established by the cable (meaning the cable isn't damaged) but you don't see the internal memory, you may need to look for software to install before you can see it. But plug it in first and see what you find. Good luck!

That memory card isn't great, is it? You already got the 1.01 firmware upgrade to the camera, right? Try a card reader (and soon, a new 8GB SDHC card,) instead of making the camera suffer.

Use a card reader. Since your computer has a USB port, you can get a card reader that reads SDHC cards. This is exactly how I do it on my computer.

I need to salvage older jdc64 4.0 megapixel camera that does NOT recognise 2gig memory cards. a store had an old "type sd" memory card they use for diadnostics behind the counter that was rated...

Since this digital camera is an older model, it probably isn't compatible with 2GB memory cards. Older electronic devices including card readers, camcorders, MP3 players and even older laptops with built-in card readers won't be able to use higher-capacity cards. Try using a 1GB memory card in your camera and if it works, then 1GB is the maximum size of memory card you can use on that camera.

It keeps saying memory card is full. Bought a new memory card and put in and it still says the card is full.

Are you sure that isn't "internal" memory card is full message?

Sometimes, when "internal memory card is full" there is no more space in the camera's internal memory. Your camera has 16 MB of internal memory. The number of pictures you can store depends on the picture size setting you have selected on your camera. Keep in mind that the camera always uses internal memory, even if a card is installed (auto default).

If really, the problem is in the "SD memory card", I suggest make some backup all files and reformat the SD. Try formatting it in the camera, there should be a process in your owners manual for doing this; donw formatted SD in your computer, isn't good.

Hope helps.

Not a good idea to post your phone # and e-address on this or any other site.

This question arrived on FixYa.

Problem is the camera firmware isn't compatible with the software possible needs a Canon free update or purchase a card reader and download your pictures stepping around the camera.

The computer will look at this card reader with the memory card installed as an external hard drive or memory device.

Download you pictures and then do a safely eject or eject before removing the memory card, once back in the camera remember to format the memory card this give the camera a nice clean surface to work with again.
