SOURCE: Reseting "Bridge mode" in RCA DCM 305R cabel modem

you can't set teh modem to bridge mode, however, you can set the router to bridge.
The linksys should have bridge mode configuration in the uer guide.

connected the 2 router together
configure the IP address of the liksys to be inthe same subnet as the moem, but out of the range of the DHCP of the modem. ie. DHCP address 192.168.0.2 through 192.169.0.100, the linksys should have the IP address as 192.168.0.200
disable the DHCP on the linksys
setup the wirless just the way you would if ti was the modem.
connect from the modem LAN port to the LAN port on thelinksys. leave the WAN port open.

I'm trying to install and configure my TrenDnet router but first I had to set my modem to bridge mode to use the router but when in bridge mode my SpeedStream won't connect to the internet. Why?

In Bridge mod, it means that you have to configure a Broadband connection on your computer to be able to connect to the internet.

To use your router with the speedstream, the Trendnet must not be used in bridge mode. Configure it to be connected to internet, then plug the speedstream to it.

How do you change to bridge mode

If you are thinking of bridge mode that a DSL modem can be set in, cable modems are by design set up like this. Cable modems are dumb that are only made to pass the public IP address given to whatever is behind it, therefore making it always in a bridge mode.

II gave my router to my mother it has already been set up for an encryption I gave them the passkey and it is not working could this be due to the fact she has dsl internet and I had cable

>No, it really doesn't matter what type of service you have.
>To get it fixed just make sure that if your mom uses a modem and you hooked the router to it, modem must be in BRIDGED mode before you can make the router work.
>To set the modem to bridged mode you need to contact your mom's DSL provider so they can walk through it

In the diagram below, if this is your setup, modem has to be on Bridged Mode:

Phone jack --- modem --- Linksys Router --- computer

Bridge router

1. Use both the Modem and the router as NAT routers. Do this by making your router a DMZ node on your modem, that way ALL traffic will pass to the router, then set up port forwarding etc on the router.

2. Run the router/modem in bridge mode (recommended). You need to set the modem to run in bridge mode, check the user manual for refrences to bridging. Then set the router to connect to PPPoE using a username and password.

I have a Linksys WRT54G router. The power went out the other day and I haven't been able to establish a connection since. I can connect when I run cable from the modem to the cpu, but not if I try using...

what is the model of your modem? if you said that you are able to get online when your computer is hooked up to the modem only, then it indicatest that your modem is not yet in bridge mode. Putting it in bridge mode will make your modem a "pass through" device thereby causing no conflicts in asking for ip add/connecting to your ISP. when your modem is in bridge mode, you should not be able to get online.
after setting your modem to bridge mode, connect your linksys router. if you have a pppoe connection, or one that uses username and password, have that set up in your linksys router. at this point, your router will be the one to ask ip adds from your ISP.
you could also visit this site, http://www-ph.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_CASupport_C1&childpagename=PH/Layout&cid=1166859677881&pagename=Linksys/Common/VisitorWrapper&lid=7788193882H13, for further configuration of your router. as for your modem, try to call your ISP on how to set your modem to bridge.

Bridge mode

Reset your modem.
There is a reset button on the back.
Push it in and hold it down for thirty seconds with the modem on.
Log into the modem at 192.168.1.1 (admin/password=username/password)
You will need to change the modems administration username/password, doesn't matter what to since we'll make it unreachable soon enough.
On the connection overview page goto configuration.
Go to DHCP configuration and switch the DHCP server off.
Then goto configuration and click on VC configuration.
All but the first VC should be disabled.
Click on the edit or configure button next to the first and enabled VC.
Switch from either DHCP or PPPoE to Bridge.
At the bottom of the screen click on set VC.
Done.
Your modem is now in 'full bridge' mode and will need to be reset again to get it out.

What is routed ppp and bridged?

Well,
PPPoE, is nothing but Point to Point over Ethernet.. which is your normal windows OS connectiod and the bridged mode is the mode in which the routers are set. In this mode, the router will authenticate with the uid and the passwrod, and not the modem. got it??

Speedstream 4200

I keep get a NAT type 3 on my ps3. I've been told when plugging the modem straight into the ps3 it should be type 2. After looking on the net it seems that there is some type of problem because of the Speedstream 4200 Modem. Is there some type of setting I could change on this modem to make it better?
