Slow performance can be caused by few things...RAM,Programs,Hardware,Ventilation... Now what you need to do is first check if you have installed the RAM according the OS/programs requirement [you can also try adding one more stick] then check the CPU usage into the task manager...if it's more than usual[not at the starup...coz that time it usually is high]...then there's some problem.I suggest you do a regular cleaning up and Defragmenting START---ALL PROGRAMS---ACCESSORIES--SYSTEM TOOLS---DISK CLEAN UP/DISK DEFRAGMENTER.[specialy for the C drive] or uninstall any unwanted software. Try removing any external hardware that you do not use very often...sometimes hardware installation also conflicts with some programs which leads to slow performing. Make sure the CPU gets a proper ventilation...lack of that would can cause some serious trouble.Do a regular cleaning by blowing some air and removing dust. Lastly you can try re-installing OS again [clean install would be better].Now if this doesn't help out then it's your motherboard...you need to take it to a service center.

Do you have enough memory to do the process? Check your CPU utilization at it might be nearing 100% There might be other processes running that is eating up the resources. To check this, you need to go to task manager.

Also, try to clear your cache and defrag your computer and do a virus scan.

If you are troubleshooting a system or OS problem, you should not consider firmware updates until after exploring more typical troubleshooting steps like file system error checking and anti-virus scanning.

try uninstalling a few unnecessary programs then click start run type cmd then type chkdsk/r/f which will scan for and attempt to fix any bad sectors and automatically fix any corrupt files on your hard drive this should schedule the task on restart then defragment your hard drive

Says no hard drive devices found

Is it a "new" drive, or a drive that you have been using for a long time, i.e., it could have failed.

Turn the computer off.
Disconnect the AC power-cord.
Check that the "data" cable between the SATA drive and the motherboard is tightly connected at both ends.
Check that the "power" cable into the SATA drive is tightly connected.
Restart your computer, and enter BIOS SETUP.
Be sure that the BIOS-search for SATA devices is "enabled".

Note that Western Digital has a "Customer Loyalty" program; if you buy a new W.D. drive through their web-site, you qualify for a discount on the purchase.

I think that your disk-drive is about to "die", and the symptom of not being able to install Windows (which tries to write many files onto the disk) is a strong indicator.

Is the drive still under warranty? If so, W.D. will give you a free replacement. If not, W.D. has a 'Customer Loyalty' program -- buy a new disk-drive from their web-site, and get a discount.

I dropped my Western digital 1TB hard drive.

The case maybe damage, so could the hard disk.
First try connecting to your computer or to an USB hard drive adapter, if it works then you know the hard drive is OK and you only need to buy a new USB hard drive adapter case.
WinHex is a edit program that allows to you see and modify the data files on the hard disk in ASCII and HEX format. If the hard disk is faulty no programs can access the data on the hard disk.
There are data recovery companies that can recover data from damages/faulty hard disk BUT it will cost you an arm and a leg for their services.

I have issues while transferring files back from Western Digital 1TB external drive. I copied all my important files there. In explorer all files are showing, but have issue, when you want to open or copy...

Hard drive may be going south and there may be bad sectors on it. Run WD diagnostic program on it and cross your fingers. Do not format the drive - that will erase all. If you do find bad sectors the check disk program will find and block bad sectors and move data in bad sectors to good ones whenever possible. After that you can recover as much as you can but not all because there will be areas where nothing can be read at all depending on the severity of the damage to the sector.

Installing new sata drive in HP pc

a clean xp installation does not recognize sata drives at all. you can either use nlite to build a custom install cd, press f6 during setup to load additional drivers, try to change your sata mode from native to compatible in your bios or use your restore cds.

WD Passport drive unmounts itself when connected

look up how to remove the drive from the enclosure on you-tube
it is easy and safe.
one of the removal videos also shows how to remove the USB-SATA adabter (it is really a sata drive). The removal is easy.. just pull it off.
You then have SATA ports.. just plug the drive into your computer through a SATA port and then you can access your data.
It is most likely the USB adapter that is broken (they break easily).
IDK if you can find a new one.
