Question about Miele Dishwashers

1 Answer

We have a Miele dishwasher. We've had a technician come because the water is not hot enough; the dishes are not dried when we empty it as a matter of fact glasses are stained and wet. After he left, the problems remained. :( We now have an additional problem. We have mildew in our dishwasher!!!!! WE wash dishes daily. WHY do we have these problems? Can we get a technician to resolve these problems permanently? Should we buy another brand?

I may be just repeating what the technician has done, please bear with me. Check first if the heating element inside the dishwasher is heating up to the temperature it is supposed to. You can do a manual inspection just to figure out. It may be a loose connection or the heating element or the temperature sensor that is causing the problem. While at it check the entire unit and have it cleaned to remove the mildew, from the drain, line and the filter. Most likely these mildew showed up when the washer will not heat up to the correct temperature plus the moisture.

Is this normal for Miele dishwasher? - some water left below filter and not everything dry after cycle

Plastic items do not get dry because they do not get as hot as glassware. A lot of moisture inside is do to the evaporation of water on the dishes during the dry cycle. Some water remains in the dishwasher because it is impossible to pump all of it out. There is nothing wrong with your dishwasher.

Not working

Good Afternoon heartbrea158, I am happy to assist you. If the dishwasher is not cleaning, typically, this is a sign that the water temperature to the unit is not warm enough. The water temperature should be at least 120f and no more than 130f. I advise turning the hot water on at the sink (or faucet closest to the dishwasher); allow the water to get as hot as possible. Are you using rinse aid? Use a rinse agent to increase drying and cleaning performance. When was the last time the filter was cleaned? If the spray arm can manually rotate, then another possibility may be that not enough water is being pumped to the spray arm. If you tap the delivery tube that feeds this nozzle and the water pressure jumps immediately; the problem lies either with the pump or maybe the impeller, for some reason the full flow of water is not making it to the upper spray arm. Should all basic troubleshooting measures fail contact a certified technician to narrow down the precise issue before investing in parts that may or may not be the root cause.

The dishes just don't get clean. I know this isn't much to go on, but that's it.

Is the water hot? (make sure hot water is available to the machine at the start of the cycle by running the sink faucet until it is hot) Are you using the internal heater? (check the control panel for this feature) Are you using the entire cycle? (time) We are not talking about baked on food here are we? Dirty dishes that have dried?

Dishwashers cant remove baked on food no matter what the advertisement said. If the food is dried on, there is a better chance but ... dishwashers work best with freshly dirty dishes. If the food is dried, at least let them soak in the dishpan for a few minutes before you put them in.

How are you arranging the dishes, can the water reach all surfaces? (Think tempest in a teapot).

Have you tried other detergents? My preference is liquid though others may prefer granulated or tablet. I also like to use a product called Rinse-Aid.

If you have considered all these ideas and the dishes are still dirty ... there may be a mechanical fault with the machine. Is it making the proper noises?, Filling and emptying properly? (listen to it)

I hope you find these suggestions helpful ... Thanks for your visit today.

Once the cycle is complete (rinse, drying, end) the dishes are clean but not dry.

#1 plastic dishes cups etc will rarely completely dry
check your heater, check for continuity on the heater it should ohm out.
does the heater get hot?
are you running hot water at the sink before pushing the start button?
are you using a rinse agent such as jet dry?

No hot water, plates cold and dirty and wet

If you've installed it recently make sure the hot water tap was plumbed in and not the cold water tap, check the hot water tap temp in the house to make sure it's getting warm, there also should be a heating element located inside of the dishwaher that heats up to help the dishes dry at the end of the wash cycle, which is controled by a thermostat. If the heating element or the thermostat are bad your dishes won't dry.

I've just moved into a house and my Miele dishwasher only runs a cold to luke warm wash, and doesn't dry the dishes properly.

Hi Shachr,

I'm Harvey the Master Plumber.

Your problem is: You've just moved into a house and your Miele dishwasher only runs a cold to luke warm wash, and doesn't dry the dishes properly.

The d/w uses water directly from the hot water heater. Your problem is common when the pipe length between the two is long. By the time the hot water gets to the d/w it's already filled with the cold water that was sitting in the pipes. Don't dispare! Since the d/w is next to the sink, the next time your d/w is ready to wash just run the hot water till it's hot at the faucet then turn the d/w on, instant hot water for the d/w.
As far as your drying problem, this is common as the d/w gets older. In my humble opinion it's not cost effective to repair. I would be glad it's still washing, but it does mean it's time to start putting a littlr bit away each week and when it fails just buy new.

Dishes not dry at end of cycle

check to see if your jet dry dispenser is empty and on some of them you can turn them up higher its important to use a rinse agent back when everyone was trying to cut down on energy use the only way to to it was to cut back on drying time so they came up with jet dry which creates a sheeting action and causes most of the water to run off before the drying cycle

Dishwasher not drying

A technician told me that the dry cycle depends on the heat from the water during the wash cycle. If your water heater is far away from your dishwasher, turn on your tab at the sink and make sure the water is hot before you start your dishwasher. Otherwise, the dishwasher is using cold water and thus when it gets to the dry cycle, the dishes won't dry.
