First thing...when you have a browser window open holding the CTRL key down and tapping the + or - keys will enlarge or shrink the font.

The dc jack is the port on the side or back of the computer that the power adapter fits into, the adapter receives AC current from the wall outlet, iy goes into the power adapter "Brick" and is converted to DC current to the correct voltage for your particular laptop. The dc jack is either a direct solder onto the motherboard (main board) inside the computer or it is connected to the main board by a cable. The direct solder piece cost a few dollars but has to be replaced professionally with the correct equipment. The cable type can be done by the home user with the right manual and dissassembly instructions. I have included a link below for the service manual of that laptop. Good luck, ParrotHead PC Repair

copy and paste the link below in your internet browsers address bar and hit enter. Remember, if you need to make the text etc. bigger....CTRL / +

The dc jack on your netbook is where you plug the charger. If you are asking what a new charger costs, it depends how many watts and where you are buying. I have seen some replacement chargers as low as around $50 to $100 US. Some of the top end ones can plug into your car or house and also power your ipod and cell phone. Just make sure the replacements wattage and voltage match your original.

If you are looking for a way to plug your netbook into your car you can get a power inverter to convert the 12 volts in your car to 120 vac for your factory supplied battery charger. These can usually be found for under $40 and have seen 110 watt models for under $20. Just make sure you get one that has a higher wattage rating than your charger. The wattage will be listed on the charger.

Hello,
When you are browsing the Internet you can make your page span the whole screen by pressing F11. You get out of Full screen by pressing F11 again.

Methinks, the word jack is a Jack of all meanings. I suspect it is the AC to DC adapter that you use to connect your computer to the electrical oulet (wall socket).
What does it cost? I do not know. I tried looking up prices for an adapter for my Toshiba, and it sells for around a 100 dolars + taxes.

Hope it helps.

L500D has a broken power supply connector inside the laptop. Is this repairable? Regards, Matt

The 'power supply connector' is the DC Power Jack on the laptop.
DC IN

Repairable?
Yes Matt. Not really that difficult at all.

With most laptops the DC Power Jack is soldered directly to the motherboard.
Not so with the Toshiba Satellite L305 series of Notebook PC's.

The DC Power Jack has it's own cable, which is connected to the motherboard.

The DC Power Jack itself is a small rectangular shape. It slides down into a slot (Trough) made in the outside of the Bottom Case.
The cable leading from the DC Power Jack is composed of four wires, which are attached to a connector,

Drop down to the second line, go to the right and click on - L500

It may also take additional time for the file to fully download.
(Page navigation may not be at the top of the PDF file. Hover your mouse cursor towards the bottom of the page)

(Pages 127, and 128 deal directly with the DC Power Jack.
Disassembly procedures begin on Page 121.
Read the Anti-Static Precautions in - Before you begin on Page 129 FIRST )

Observe Anti-Static Precautions
1) Buy, and wear an ESD wrist strap. (Electro Static Discharge)
The average cost is around $3 to $5.
Connect the alligator clip to a good ground source.

{I connect to an unpainted surface, of the metal frame of an empty desktop computer case.
Perhaps you have a large metallic object to use instead. (Unpainted) A large metal serving tray, or large metal knickknack}

2) Use a multi-compartment container for the various screws you will remove. Label each compartment for the area the screw/s come out of.
{If a multi-compartment container is not available you can substitute with a clean egg carton. Label each egg holder }

Some screws are VERY similar to others. Do Not mix them up.

3) Make a record as you disassemble. Make notes, drawings, and/or photograph/video record.
Nice to have a record to refer back to in case you are interrupted, and have your own personal notes besides the manual, and guide.

I have an Acer Aspire One and when I plug the charger in I have to spin it or wiggle it or both to get the battery to charge. Once I have it in position it generally stays on charge, but if the cable is...

It could be either one Sarah.

The AC adapter's (Charger) cable, or the DC Power Jack where the AC adapter plugs into the laptop.

This is an example of the DC Power Jack not installed,

http://www.laptopjacks.com/view_part/Acer-Aspire-ONE-AOA150-ZG5-DC-Power-Jack-AC351816.html

(You can click on the three views of the jack to enlarge)

1) Check the DC Power Jack to see if it's in good repair.

Battery removed use a small flat tipped screwdriver, and Gently see if you can move the Center Pin around in the jack.
See if the Center Pin will move side to side a small amount. There is supposed to be No perceptible movement.

Referring back to the closeup photos of the DC Power Jack, the flat blade-like prongs are upside down, in relation to how the jack sits on the motherboard.

The flat prongs go down through the motherboard, and are soldered to the motherboard.
If the center pin of the jack is stationary, but the jack as a unit moves around, one or more solder joints, (Connections) for the flat prongs may be cracked.

The repair consists of completely disassembling the laptop, removing the broken DC Power Jack, and installing a new one.

Acer Aspire One service manual,

http://www.tim.id.au/blog/tims-laptop-service-manuals/#toc-acer

(Click on the blue - One - in Aspire One.
This is a PDF file. The computer you are using now has Adobe Reader on it which uses PDF files.
After you click on the file name (One) it may take up to 30 seconds before you see the first page.
It may also take additional time for the file to fully download.

(Took 12 seconds just now for full download)

No perceptible movement of the DC Power Jack? Suspect the cable of the AC adapter right near it's plug. (Plug that plugs into the DC Power Jack)

There is a bad connection between the power cord and the port into which it fits. this bad connect has lasted for weeks. i've been able to jiggle the cord and situate it so their is a connection. but, now...

The port on the laptop where the AC adapter, (Charger to some), plugs into is the DC Power Jack.
(Or DC-in )

This is an example of an aftermarket manufacturers offering for a DC Power jack, that fits an Acer Aspire 4520 Series Notebook, (Laptop),

http://www.laptopjacks.com/view_part/Acer-Laptop-DC-Power-Jack-AC91316.html

Click on the photo of the jack, showing three views of it. This will enlarge for better detail.

As you probably know computers use DC voltage.
Your laptop battery, and a flashlight battery are examples of stored DC electricity.

Looking at all three views, the middle pin of the jack is for the Positive connection. Down inside the round opening on the side, is a strip of metal. One on each side. These are for the Negative connection.

Looking at the jack in all three views, you will note a flat pin, or Prong, that comes up in the middle, and at the back of the jack.
You will note that it is riveted to the center pin, or Positive connection.

The two flat pins, (Or Prongs), immediately on either side of the middle flat pin, are for the Negative connection. They connect to the strips of metal inside the round jack opening.

In relation to how the jack sits inside the laptop, the jack is upside down. The flat pins go down through the motherboard, and are soldered to the motherboard on the other side.

1.The body of the DC Power Jack is made of a type of Phenolic plastic. Hard, and has great insulating qualities.

It is also easily broken.
If you can move the center pin around, this is what has happened. (Battery REMOVED!)

Solution is to replace the DC Power Jack.

2.Where the flat pins go through the motherboard, and are soldered, is called a Solder Joint. The area where the flat pin meets the motherboard, and solder is applied.

One, or more solder joints can crack.
This gives you an intermittent connection, such as you have described.

Solution is to re-solder the solder joint/s.

3.There are also laptops that have a bad motherboard design.
The DC Power Jack is placed on an area of the motherboard, that is weak.

If you think of a 1 foot square sheet of plastic, as being the main body of the motherboard, and attach a 2 inch strip to the main body, this is the area shape that I'm referring to.

The 2 inch strip can crack, where it meets the main body.
Motherboards have Circuit Traces. Think of them as Very, Flat, Thin, copper wires.
Circuit traces go across the main body of the motherboard, and lead to the 2 inch strip. If this 2 inch strip cracks away from the main body of the motherboard, the circuit traces break.

If you move the AC adapter plug while in the DC Power Jack, you may be able to make the broken circuit traces touch each other, making a connection.
Eventually this fails to work.

Solution is to replace the motherboard. With this type of bad design the problem will reoccur.

This link is for the Acer Aspire 4520 Service Manual.
It is free.

http://www.tim.id.au/blog/tims-laptop-service-manuals/#toc-acer

As you can see there are many service manuals listed for Acers.
Scroll down with your eyes to the second Aspire listing. (Starts with 1200, 1300, 1310, 1350, and so on)
Scroll across the third line down, until you come to - 4520
Click right on 4520

This is a PDF file download. After you click on 4520, you may not see anything happening for a few seconds. The file is downloading in the background.

Advise letting the file download all the way, before looking through it. You might break the download connection.

If you wish to save a copy to your computer, go up to the top header, and click on the Floppy Disk icon.
This is the second icon from the left.

If you hover your mouse cursor over the icon, it will briefly reveal, 'Click to save this to your computer or another location'

After you click on the icon a small window comes up.
Save a copy...
Down in the Save a copy box you will see -
File name:

In the box to the right of File name, you will see -
aspire 4520 1220 4520g 4220g

Advise put your mouse cursor right after the g in 4220g, Left-click Twice, then make one space with your space bar.
Now type - Service Manual

Makes it much easier to find.
If you save it to your computer, you won't have to download it again. You can also burn it off to CD disk, and free up space on your harddrive.

I haven't worked on the Acer Aspire 4520 series yet.
The DC-in jack, (DC Power Jack) is on the Right side at the rear. (Page 17)

Looking at the Board Layout, Top View, on Page 12, you can see the DC Power Jack.

Come down below the 1 with the red small rectangle. Look straight to the left of the Half Moon hole, with the two top corners cut off. The DC Power Jackis on near the edge of the motherboard. (Board)

(You can click on the + sign in the top header, to zoom in)

On Page 13 you're looking at the Bottom view of the motherboard. (Board)
The little silvery dots are solder joints.

Your motherboard design does not follow Item 3,
I listed above.
You have a broken DC Power Jack, or cracked solder joints.

The internal ac connection on my Acer aspire 3000 is bad, i this a costly fix? Who can do this that is reputable?

Your AC adapter, (Charger), converts Alternating Current to Direct Current, (DC)
[A flashlight battery, and your laptop battery are examples of stored DC electricity]

The port on your laptop where you plug your AC adapter into, is the DC Power Jack.

Price to replace this jack? Depends on where you take it to have it fixed, and what it is in.
Average is $90 to $150.
The tech has to completely disassemble the laptop, all the way down to just the motherboard in hand. Then desolder, and remove the old DC Power Jack, and solder a new one in. Now the laptop is reassembled.

It could be that solder joint/s have cracked, and just need re-soldering.
Less cost.
Or, it could be that the entire motherboard needs to be replaced, because the motherboard design was/is bad in the first place.
More cost.

Who can do this that is reputable? I'll put my money on a small 'Mom and Pop' computer repair shop, every time! Their advertising is largely by word of mouth, and that is by satisfied customers!

Toshiba L300 satellite --- Power cord does not connect!

There are several companies online, or you can find someone in your area, the "AC Power Jack" that you plug into, is soldered onto the Motherboard using 2-4 "Prongs", one or more of yours has "Broken", and isn't making a connection, while the Price of the part is cheap, the repair is "Difficult" if you are trained to do the repair, but I have done 6 or 7 myself, so it is possible, But damage to the Motherboard can occur when soldering the new jack in,"Burning" a contact or something, best to take it to a repair shop,$150-$175, or $5-15 if you can do it yourself, Again "DIFFICULT", so the repair shop is your best bet, the online companies have Guaranties against damage. Google "Laptop DC jack repair"
http://www.DCJackRepair.NET is in the sponsered results. There are self help pages for the repair,
