i bought this scope and put in new batteries but it will not even light the hand control. where can i go to trouble shoot the system?

currently on a trip in Europe and when I went to shoot this morning, I can only capture 1/3 of the area I'm shooting. That is everything in the lower 2/3 of the screen is black. I've tried a couple of lenses with no avail. Viewing previous pics is not a problem, so this is obviously not a screen problem. I'm thinking something with the mirrors? Any suggestionns

Did you remove the lens cap.

This is a simple refractor telescope. Put the eyepiece with the largest number written on it into the telescope. DO NOT use the 2x barlow if you have one.

I answered your question already-- TURN THE SCOPE around you have it mounted backwards! The eyepiece end is pointed UP. Like the picture above in your question.

What I believe you did was mount the scope UPSIDE DOWN. If it looks like the picture in your question the eyepiece and focuser end is pointed UP the mirror is on the bottom.

Turn it around and take the lens cap off.... this end is pointed toward the sky.

You never said what type of telescope you have.

Put the eyepiece with the LARGEST number written on it into the telescope. This is your LOWEST magnification. DO NOT use the 2x barlow if you have one.

Go outside during the daytime and practice focusing on a distant object.

my Meade ETX-125 makes a grinding noise when I try to slew to the left and will not move. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Bill
