If the machine giving you this problem has vista on it and you do not have a disk call the manufacturer of the computer. They are required to send you a recovery disc if requested.

Hello,
Here is the fix for Bootmgr problem in Vista/7
Bootmgr Windows Vista/7
For windows XP : Try to fix your windows by selecting repair option.
  • Boot your computer with the Windows XP CD
  • At the first screen select R to repair
  • If you got a command prompt, just type on the command prompt "fixboot" then hit enter.
If those information did not help you with the bootmgr issue, then you might need to reinstall windows on your computer.

Hope this will help

My laptop says bootmgr is missing and i dont know how to fix

First make sure that all usb devices are unplugged and remove all cd's or dvd's or sd cards etc.
If you are running Windows 7 or Vista you can try do a repair by hitting F8 while it boots and then select repair. If this does not work you will need a install disc. If you have Windows XP you will need an install CD to do a repair. I have attached a few links that may help explain in detail. Thanks for using fixya.

First before doing this you need to make sure you have your windows vista CD.

If you do not you need to obtain a copy of this,

the following site should have all the details you need to make the CD and also to fix the problem :)

Cannot restart laptop

"Boot with the Vista DVD, when it enters Setup hit your SHIFT-F10 keys Setup will run "cmd", and drops you to a command prompt that is running with SYSTEM privileges.

Then at the command prompt type the following (hitting <enter>) after each line.:

attrib bootmgr -s -r -h
del bootmgr
ren temp bootmgr
attrib bootmgr -a +s +r +h
"

hope this helps! :)

Bootmgr is compressed

I know of three solutions, none of them will work without recovery or OS discs, and I can only guarantee one of them--the one that whipes your system. Try these in this order (assuming you have system discs);

#1 Boot from the system disc and choose the "repair" option. This is the quickest fix, and you lose anything.

#2 Boot from the system disc, and in your Start menu search type "Command Prompt". Open Command Prompt and type (hit enter after each line);
expand bootmgr temp
attrib bootmgr -s -r -h
del bootmgr
ren temp bootmgr
attrib bootmgr -a +s +r +h

#3 Run a full system recovery from your system discs.

Now, if you don't have your system discs, and you're running Windows Vista, there is another possible option. If your computer is fairly new then you probably have a WinRE partition for recovery, (a "factory image" drive)? I won't go into this now, if you have your discs option 1 or 2 should work for you.

Hard drive compressed/bootmgr compressed

I'm assuming that you are running vista. Try one of the following:
You will require a Vista DVD to boot off of.

Proceed to the System Repair Option, and follow the steps. It should repair your boot sectors..

Or

Once you have booted up, Press SHIFT+F10 to run 'cmd' prompt.

Then at the command prompt type the following (hitting <enter>) after each line.:

attrib bootmgr -s -r -h
del bootmgr
ren temp bootmgr
attrib bootmgr -a +s +r +h
