If you have it laying flat on the ground you should check that the buttons and the SD card slot are UNDER the game disc slot.
If you have your Wii positioned vertically make sure the disc label is faced to the right. Like this.
Another cause might be that some specific games have issues. See a list here.
If this happens with only one disc (game) maybe you should clean the disc. Careful though read here how to do it safely.
If none of the above helped and this happens with more than one game then bad news you might have to repair the console. Ask at the store where you bought it for more information on that.
Make sure you have indeed insertted the disc right-side-up. After you are sure of this try running a CD cleaner through the drive or have someone professionally clean it out. This is normal errors because of dust on the reader lens
First thing to do is get a Wii laser cleaning kit and run it in your disc drive to clear the dust off of the laser lens. Next thing is to make sure your game is not dirty or scratched. If your Wii console is laying flat, it may be positioned upside down. Ensure that it is positioned right-side up: the game disc slot should be above all three buttons and the SD Card slot. If these things are clean and your system is right side up and it still won't read your disc then you will need to replace the DVD drive. If you Wii is still under warranty (Nintendo Wii carries a standard twelve-month warranty) then Nintendo will fix it for free, if it's not under warranty then you will cost around $75 for Nintendo to repair it. Once you contact Nintendo, they will e-mail you a free FedEX shipping slip that you can use (free shipping both ways) then just box up your Wii unit securely and ship it out to them for repair. if he stuck a metal plate in the disc tray he hit the disc sensor which will not read any disc if you still have your warranty for the wii call nintendo they will help you with sending it to the nintendo customer service if you dont have a warranty your only option is to get a new system.
You need a special screwdriver. You can get one from ebay it's called a tri-wing. Just search for "wii screwdriver" and then there are take apart guides all over the net and youtube videos.
It's not hard but it's a bit painstaking the first time.
"Object inserted into the
Disc Slot If an object is inserted into the Disc Slot, it will automatically be
pulled in, and it won't be possible to eject it. Do
not attempt
to open the Wii console or otherwise try to remove the object,
as it may result in further damage to the console. The Wii console will need to be repaired. Because this type of damage
is not covered under Nintendo's warranty, there will be a charge
for the repair. Please call 1-800-255-3700 to discuss available options."
sounds like slot disc loading mechanism gearing is misaligned.. Slot drives are difficult to fiddle with, I suggest you try to get this repaired under warranty, (don't mention that you dropped it though, just say it stopped working)
