Don't have software. Is there anything I can do without it, or is there somewhere I can get it. This unit has worked for about two years and this is the only time I have had a problem.

Hi you could try the makers web site or even try using search engine and asking where can i get software for give your make and model number you should be able to get it off net.
The only other option is going somewhere that sells them and ask if they can order a copy of the software.
Try their site first as it is usually on their let me know how you get on ok

No map

Install the firmware again:

Go to: http://www.magellangps.com/support/product.asp?prodid=1114

Or, if this doesn´t work, go to www.magellangps.com, click on "support", click on "legacy products" (left) and click on "eXplorist 210 Europe" (do NOT click on "eXplorist 210 North America")

On this page click under Updates/Upgrades on "version 2.57", and follow the instructions. You will have to register your GPS, register it under a European country.

After you have installed the firmware you will have the basemap and some new windows on the GPS. Good luck and enjoy!

You can download the US basemap for the 500 at
http://www.megaupload.com/it/?d=EJTNQH03
Rename it BASEMAP.MGI
Then copy it in the directory "background maps" in the SD card of your 500, by using a SD card reader/writer.
Insert the SD card in your 500 and connect it to your PC; then turn it on;it will turn on regularly, because the basemap in the card will be detected; turn it to USB file transfer mode, and copy the basemap from the SD card to the directory "background maps" of the 500.

Error screen trouble shooting

If you have the USB cable and a dvd/cd that contains the software/maps, then it needs to be loaded. Install the software on your computer. With the unit off, plug it into USB, then turn on unit. run program installed from dvd/cd. you can also try resetting the unit by holding down the Menu and Nav key, hopefully a small box appears and you can use the stiff stick to change the numbers. if this does appear, change the numbers to read 32 then press the stiff stick in (pressing enter). _Daniel

since the unit doesn't have a base map it needs to be loaded with the base map so send it for a service so that the base map could be added.
