Hi Redhaze, note that I said that none of the handsets have power when removed from their cradles so am unable to apply your suggested fix. Any more suggestions please.

The new batteries you installed are rechargable batteries ? and put each phone into the base for a couple seconds till you see the charging light flicker. then try the phone(s)

Disconnect the phone line leaving the power supply still plugged in. Next page the handset from the base unit hold and press button until it bleeps (remove the handset from the base unit first). press menu and scroll down to register.... press menu .....scroll down to select base... press menu then press 1. This should reset the phone. Failing that you can ring customer services the number will be on the bottom of the base unit.

Hi, It sounds like the batteries of the handset could be the problem.
Try replacing the batteries with other new batteries. I recently purchased a good brand of battery (not rechargeable), but they were down in their voltage straight out of the package.
Make sure the batteries are AAA NiMH batteries, and that they are charged for at least 16 hours.
Also check that you have inserted them the correct way +ve/-ve.
When you have inserted them, place the phone on the base and the handset should show you it is charging.

Is there a way to repair my Sherwood S-7100A Stereo Receiver? The On-Off-volume dial switch does not click on or off. Could it be the fuse (which visually appears OK)? Or does the switch itself need...

Your best bet is to find a tech who can repair it; it is possible. Or buy another one on ebay--it might be a cheaper fix. These receivers are among the sweetest-sounding ever made and are well worth fixing.

The loudness knob has suddenly stopped working. The knob just spins, won't turn on the receiver at all. Any ideas?

The knobs are usually connected to a potentiometer; basically a variable resistor circuit with a long shaft that the knob attaches to. The knob could be secured to the shaft with a plastic grommet, which can be stripped. It could be attached by a small screw on the knob, and tightening that would fix it. Or, it's possible that the potentiometer itself broke, and would need to be replaced.

If the "pot" is broken, a repair shop should be able to fix it for less than $50. If you're handy with tools, you can take the 7100A apart; hopefully read the specs from the potentiometer; and buy a new one. Replacing it shouldn't take more than a few screwdrivers, some pliers, and a soldering iron...

Good luck!
