Question about Kenmore Dryers

Kenmore 400 series dryer won't start

Hello, my name is Sandra. I have a 3yr old kenmore 400 series dryer and it will not start. I have checked the breaker box, and checked the 220 outlet to make sure it is getting power and it is. I have taken off the back panel and have checked it out and everything looks like it is in place. I did check the voltage where the cord hooks to the back of the dryer and found one side gave a full charge and the other gave hardly any( don't know if that might be whats wrong). Just hoping someone might know what the problem is. Did read someone's suggestion about a white thermal fuse on someone else's blog of having trouble with their dryer starting. But not sure where that is to check it! Thank you for your time!

If you checked the voltage at the terminal block on the back of the dryer while it was plugged in, you should have gotten the following readings:

RED to BLACK = 220-240VAC
RED to NEUTRAL (White) = 110-120VAC
BLACK to NEUTRAL (White) = 110-120VAC

NOTE: If the wires are not color coded at the terminal block, the OUTER two wires (LEFT and RIGHT) are the HOT leads and the center conductor is the NEUTRAL.

If you got anything other than these readings, you may have a bad power cord or a service breaker tripped. Some homes use two separate breakers to make up the 220 service instead of one single 220 breaker. If one breaker is tripped, the dryer may or may not start, depending on which leg it is. Can you please confirm your readings?

You need to confirm you have the proper input voltage before assuming you have any bad components.

My kenmore 400 series gas dryer will not start it just makes a click sound its a couple of years old

Hello & Welcome to FixYa
If you have already cleaned the vent then the problem is with the Thermal fuse. When the thermal fuse goes bad it cannot be reset and replacing it is recommended repair. It is located on the blower wheel housing inside the rear panel to the exhaust duct. You can test it for continuity before replacing. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

My kenmore 400 series dryer will not start. It has electricity the inside light comes on when I open the door. I push the start button and nothing happens.

There is a thermocouple on the inside that prevents the dryer from getting too hot. If this burns out this opens the circuit so the dryer will not work but all other functions will work.

I HAVE A KENMORE 400 SERIES DRYER. THE LENT NO LONGER STICKS TO THE FILTER. WHEN I PULL THE FILTER OUT TO CLEAN IT, THE LENT SLIDES OFF THE FILTER CONTINUALLY CLOGGING THE VENT IN THE BACK OF THE DRYER....

Try cleaning the filter to remove any residue from dryer sheets (a dish detergent solution should cut the softener build-up). Be as gentle as possible. An old toothbrush is useful for this.

Also, a weak exhaust flow may be the culprit. Check the dryer vent line all the way outside for excess lint.

Your fan impeller (inside the dryer) may be loaded with lint, too.
